RobClock

haven't seen it, probably won't

what are your thoughts on The Lighthouse?

MSPaintClock

I didnt see it, Parasite was really good go see it

Why should i see the lighthouse

RobClock

it's a visually striking, atmospheric, well written and masterfully performed film. In perfect honesty, i was on board from the onset of hearing there was a horror movie about a lighthouse worker going insane- it just turned out to be one of the best pictures i've seen in years

GreyClock

I've seen Parasite and will watch The Lighthouse at a later date.

Why wouldn't you watch Parasite? Why shouldn't you see The Lighthouse?

Why wouldn't you watch Parasite?

seems like a feel-bad kind of movie, and i just watched the ending of Bojack so I'm not really feeling anything that's going to pile on the depression right now.

PhantomCatClock

johnnyutah made a gameboy gif of a scene from the lighthouse i think

everyone on twitter liked it so he made ceramic coasters of it and those sold oddly quickly for what a bizarre idea the whole thing was

Hadn't even heard of the film until the Oscar buzz.

I will have to find it when my life is less crazy.

I saw Frozen 2 like four times in the last two days. Yay babysitting.

PhantomCatClock

It isn't so bad. It ain't Magnolia.

Knives out is my favorite movie from last year.

1917 was overrated. Good, but overrated.

Joker is a "watch once" and never watch again kind of movie. Good acting but ehhhh. Lots of questionable licensed music choices too. The walking down stairs scene in particular. Why the fuck did they pick THAT specific track.

Probably won't watch parasite.

MSPaintClock

music choices in movies is really weird lately.

i think it's because in general people are just fucking illiterate and stupid when it comes to music so they default to orchestral boomy versions of rolling stones songs

its so dumb.

I've seen only good movies in like the last year so I'll probably go see Sonic The Hedgehog soon.

I don't see many movies, but last year I watched The Irishman, Joker, The Dark Knight Rises, It Chapter 2, Detective Pikachu, Avengers Endgame, and Jojo Rabbit.

It 2 and Detective Pikachu sucked so hard. I only saw It 2 because I was stuck in town for a few hours because I missed my bus, and my friends were seeing it. It's 3 hours of absolute fucking trash where it uses the idea of "this isn't scary enough, give it more teeth and loud noises.". Total fucking trash. Detective Pikachu started out really cool, it was like a little noire film, and it had beautiful art direction, with all the colours and whatnot. Then it just kinda gave up and became a really generic children's adventure movie, which was disapointing. I'll lump Avengers into the kinda bad catergory too, it was definitely an MCU movie. Granted, some of the action was cool, and I really liked Paul Rudd in it, who was super prevalent in it at the start, but it just kinda felt like another MCU film with a WOOWEE big twist at the end. Also Captain Marvel in Endgame is one of the worst characters I've ever seen put to screen, I would of given it like a 7/10, but her like 5 total minutes of screentime drop it to like a 6 for me, she's that bad.

Joker was sick. It had great music, great direction, a great performance, and a very minimal use of dialouge. It has probably one of my favourite endings in a film too, its so satisfying and cool. It was just a great movie I was really glad I got to see in cinemas. The Irishman was great too, I was lucky enough to actually live near a cinema that was showing it, so me and all my friends went, it was great. I loved the use of ambience, the kind of multilayered story through time, the quick shots, and stylistic nature of the whole thing. I didn't really know any of the actors apart from De Niro and Pesci, but Al Pacino stole the fucking show as Jimmy Hoffa. Also, I saw The Dark Knight Rises again on DVD. It's amazing. It makes like zero sense but it's just so fucking cool. I love the structure and just the sheer scale of the film, it's one of my favourite movies.

It came out in 2020 over here, but Jojo Rabbit is one of my favourite films now too. I saw it in cinema, and it's damn near perfect. The performances are great, the script is hilarious but also kinda sad, the shot composition and direction is fantastic, and theres not a single character in it I don't like. You should all go see it.

Slurpee

parasite was good
every bong joon-ho movie is good

parasite is kind of a downer but it is also surprising and a lot of fun, it's more of a fargo than a no country iycmd
I was recommended to see it while knowing as little about it as possible and that turned out to be good advice

Yeah, I had only seen the trailer and luckily it doesn't tell you much really. Except maybe one thing. Don't watch the trailer.

I've seen Memories of Murder or "The Importance of Tetanus Vaccination" and I've been meaning to see The Host and maybe Okja?

GreyClock

Okja shows up on my Netflix a lot and I'm like I don't think I'm in the mood right now to watch a movie with some weird hippo monster and Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) looking like a pedophile.

Slurpee

okja might make you not want to eat meat for a while jahu
that's not what it specifically sets out to do, but that's a common effect of watching it
