VCR clock i totally agree with you here. I was saying before, people get mad as fuck if the mega-corporations don't pander to them. It's mostly pop-culture things that are getting this treatment too. People who build their entire self-identity around buying products and consuming merchandise treat this soulless money-making machines like a religion, and demand they stand as bastions of morality.

Of course, I don't blame the corporations for doing some half-hearted tweet to scam the suckers.  It's the logical thing to do. Maybe the teenager running their twitter actually feels strongly about BLM, or maybe they don't give a shit at all. Either way, might as well put out a tweet. No reason not to.

Imagine if, instead of some lame tweet or donation to a charity (which is tax deductible by the corp. probably) or just going off-air for 8 minutes, they actually made specific, meaningful promises? Do you think it's a good thing that Europeans are protesting against this very American issue? I suppose it's a good thing that it's getting visibility all over the world like this, but again,  the only reason this is the issue people got worked up enough about to protest is certainly the fact that we consume such vast amounts of American media that this just hits the hardest. It'd make more sense to tackle the systematic racism the Romani people face here, for instance, but that's not as visible and doesn't get enough wokeness points so uhh why bother

At the end of the day, I believe biggest result we'll manage over here in Finland is some rising COVID-numbers since people took to the streets in masses even though that hasn't disappeared anywhere which maybe I dunno that could've warranted some thinking beforehand, huh? Although I suppose a lot of those protestors were black people who wanted to feel solidarity with American protestors or something and that's more understandable

chinese citizens pretty much view themselves as an ethnostate, so it's not really surprising. They don't only hate black people, but pretty much anyone who isn't Chinese. That's obviously a sweeping statement but in regards to the overall cultural gestalt, it's just how the country is.

I think the Disney executives thought Rose would be popular in china, except the problem is she's Vietnamese. Not noticeable to westerners, but the Chinese audience noticed. Even if they did except Rose as representation, she had an interracial kiss with Finn.

It's kind of funny in an ironic way, because it's like they WANT to pander to the Chinese audience but keep fucking it up because they underestimate how racist they are. And at the same time they're trying to pander to anti-racist sentiments of the west.

I believe what's being referred to is his previous, unrelated arrests. I won't go into it here but his criminal record is publically available, and suffice it to say he did some pretty messed up stuff. Like Pop-tart said it's not really relevant to the current situation, and the specific event that lead to his death was trivial (he used a bill which was thought to be a counterfeit to buy something; it's likely Mr. Floyde wasn't even aware the bill was fake, or the bill might not have even been fake at all.)

Isn't that because everyone on Earth loves Dwayne Johnson? Plus all the leads are attractive and there are traditional romantic relationships. Chinese audiences tend to prefer stories with traditional values like men dating women. The new star wars pretty much had nothing but single loner weirdos, and most of the leads were kind of ugly. Hell, the only romance depicted is a divorced couple.
There were a lot of factors as to why China hated new star wars. It failed spectacularly. Still, Finn obviously had something to do with it if Disney's think tank decided to remove him from advertisements.

They dropped a ton of convictions Goines was involved in with no retrial, though not everyone actually got changed back to innocent (93 cases where people were convicted solely on his testimony, despite over twenty years of corruption allegations) so yes, it's heavily implied that he was wrongfully convicted, but any smartass who likes to "UH, TECHNICALLY, THE SYSTEM SAYS" could shrug it off

Even if he was high at the time of death, the video is insanity. People saying shit like "check his pulse" for three more minutes after he went lifeless. Dude was dead and they still wouldn't get off his neck. EMT comes by... finds no pulse... and they still stayed on his neck as bystanders pleaded for the cops not to kill him.

And I think that's why this blew up the way it did. Police giving zero fucks while members of the community begged for this dude's life.
