Quote from: Munglai;1521430Babies and animals have natural oils in their hair that stop it getting super dirty and if they bathe in plain water or even leave it for a little while it will become clean on its own accord. However! a while ago people invented shampoo and told everyone that it was awesome and everyone believed them because they were uneducated peasants/trendy poshos and they all started using it but little did they know that shampoo actually strips all these oils from your hair and makes it retain dirt. Your hair gets confused and produces more oils than it needs which is why hair gets greasy.

If you avoid using shampoo for a month or so and just wash it with plain water your hair starts to produce the right amount of oil and stuff to keep it clean and then you never have to use shampoo again and your hair stays clean for longer and is generally healthier.

However you have to put up with it being a bit gross for a while. Mine isn't doing too bad but it doesn't photograph well at the moment.
Wow, I had no idea. But don't they make shampoo that doesn't strip the oils?

Marlin Clock

Also my hair can't afford that. I have overly-greasy hair.

Not as far as I know. If they did that it would pretty much have the same effect as what I'm doing now and people who've used shampoo all their life would go araffa this shampoo isn't working.

If you put up with it for a month it might be non-greasy forever! : )

but I don't know maybe some people are naturally greasy headed

Hell yes I know what you mean! I cut mine a few months ago after having long hair for 4 years. I look much more civil now haha

Maybe I should do this. My hair is really greasy too, and it always like spreads from my hair to my forehead, it is terrible.

Never heard this so well explained... but after your hair 'stabilises', it might be clean but it won't smell nice!

I hadn't thought of that but I don't know maybe I'll fill my hair with blossom every morning.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1521578I'm shocked. How could someone with that much hair not have a gay friend and/or hair stylist?

Your always supposed to shampoo with a good conditioner. Shampooing without a conditioner is meaningless. The oils in conditioners are better than the fatty-grease-oils your body produces. They also make the hair silky smooth, straighter (or lighter), and easier to untangle. To top it off, they also moisturize the scalp and prevent dandruff (dandruff: not afflicted by shampoo).

Honestly people!

My hair is naturally super straight and doesn't tangle and I don't have dandruff so blblblblbll

Quote from: Munglai;1521416at the moment I'm trying to see if I can not cut my hair for a year and simultaneously I'm trying to stabilise my hair by not using shampoo for a month so it's pretty hard to take a picture of myself now where I don't look like a tramp but here's a picture of me from a couple of months ago looking like a musketeer cross-dresser

i don't believe this because as a first hand account, natural oils work better than any man made products. when i had longer hair i used paul mitchell shampoo and conditioner every day yet my hair was always dry, messy, and had dandruff. then i cut down on how often i shampooed and my hair was becoming silkier, shinier, and overall better. the best way to care for hair is to wash and trim every now and then (if you're not going to do what munglai does) to keep dead ends off and everything else moist.

Not necessarily. Maybe depending on the person, but your hair doesn't really give off much of an odor. Any smell is from the stuff the oils collect, which is what you're trying to wash out in the first place. A friend of mine doesn't shampoo her hair, and it has no scent at all.

Insomnia

Shitty pub shows are the best. I'm going to be pissed when I'm too huge of a rockstar to play in random dive bars :(
