Also, while I have all eight inches up for Neal Stephenson and his fantastic facial hair, I have to say I favor steampunk because it's like the crazy inventiveness of the Victorian Age but multiplied and prolonged, and on top of that it touches on the problem I've always had with computers, which is that you need an entirely unnatural material to make them. It's not the artificialness of semiconductors I have a problem with, it's the low level of physical manipulability and choice of materials. Not a lot of room to move, there. You're working with a logic board no matter what, and if you're making a peripheral, you're finding a way to convert something into something that can be read into a logic board. So I'm a bit disenfranchised by the loss of the ability to use an aesthetically pleasing and creative form to serve an equally creative function. It's like design that strictly isn't sensation-oriented art.

because it's ridiculous, that 80 dollars could be spent on something far more useful than making a fashion statement. and you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to look nice, what are you proving by doing so. whatever, it's not my money going to waste.
