Incanonical!

Some people believe Paul McCartney died in a car crash before they recorded Rubber Soul (which would explain why he's so lame these days).

I know about that, that's why I said there'd be a part in the game where it seems he dies, but then is found alive, I don't see why he has to be a zombie :grumpy:

Topcatyo

Damn, now I really want this game.
Insert obligatory "Let's make it!" post.

What about Yoko Ono?

Also I've thought of ideas, because you can't have much of a game without levels. Certain songs would be worlds, and you have to beat them to gain the song's power.
Most bosses will be not actually evil, but turned into music haters by the Blue Meanies. They'll be characterized by having no color except black and grey.(Maybe have some petrified people, and explain that bosses had more melody than those petrified)

Strawberry Fields will be a big strawberry patch, the boss being a giant evil strawberry (Maybe a Strawberry Clock?)

Octopus's Garden would be under the sea, the Octopus will be the boss, you have to fight him in his garden to get him back to his senses. He'll look all trippy-rainbow colored afterwards.

Nowhere Man has you in the middle of nowhere, the nowhere man is the one person there, but he's been turned grey by the meanies.

Elenor Rigby has you in the town where she lives.. Elenor Rigby helps you out, but Father Mackenzie has been turned grey.  You fight Fr. MacKenzie in the church, but in the process of defeating him, Eleanor dies, the final scene before the end of Eleanor Rigby is Fr. MacKenzie burying Eleanor Rigby.

Yellow Submarine: You'd have to traverse through the submarine and find one of the main bosses controlling it, you need to fight it. Maybe Max Slygh or Old Fred?

Back in the USSR has you in Soviet Russia, a group of revolutionaries are the boss.

Across the Universe will have you drift through space, maybe have one of the big Meanies be a boss, like the Dreadful Flying Glove.

Come Together brings you to a hippy camp, where the Ol' Flattop has been turned grey and looks like a white-collar businessman.

The Long and Winding Road will be the final world being their final single. It's just a long road with many doors leading into seemingly nowhere, but actually go back to parts of previous worlds finally ending in a door that leads to the final boss.

You get the picture.

Munglai

I think this should be a point and click adventure instead.

Marlin Clock

Well then having the songs be worlds instead of powers sounds like it'd make more sense then.

Topcatyo

Mean Mr. Mustard should be a boss or something.
Or you do a random sidequest and take him to see the Queen.
Or something.
Also, I kinda imagine it was a 3rd person platformer, and maybe with a mix of KOTOR in there.

IvysaurClock

They'd probably attach all sorts of dangly shit to his silver hammer though :(

That would be the real Paul McCartney coming back to life to dethrone the fake Paul McCartney.

Topcatyo

Making more ideas for this thread because it's hella fun.
All four band members would have unique stun attacks that stun an enemy for seven seconds or so.
Ringo smashes his bass drum through an enemy and gets them stuck.
Paul whips an enemy with a guitar plug and it wraps around them.
Harrison grows his beard super long and entangles them.
Lennon... I dunno.

Topcatyo

Mr. Moonlight makes it turn to night (if it's not already, the game would have active day cycles), which makes certain powers (or enemies) stronger or weaker depending on the enemies.
The day equivalent to Mr. Moonlight would be Good Morning Good Morning.
In order to get these, you go to the moon (which is a world like the kind Joliet Jane suggested) and you do a quest for the sun.
EDIT::
Also, Pepperland would be great background music for Yellow Submarine world.

Lennon says some gibberish lyrics and the stunned enemies try to decipher what they mean.

Indecipherable.

I love this thread so much.

How much crap do you think we would get if Micheal Jackson were an antagonist that steals all of their songs, rendering them without special abilities?

Also, Micheal should be a giant Peter Pan styled fairy. He is grey because all of the music was drained out of him, but he's painted himself and everything else in his ersatz neverland world in sloppy pastels. He needs their songs to make a perfect paint, his is imperfect and keeps chipping off. It's a really spooky world.

There are many petrified people and creatures in the neverland world that Jackson has attempted to reanimate with clockwork. The process of painting them and rigging them to control their clockwork superstructures has driven them insane. Micheal and the neverland creatures aren't really bad, but they attack you until you beat the world.

After a boss fight with Micheal ends in a stalemate with both sides wounded, it's discovered that the paint Micheal keeps applying to himself is poisoning him. The Beatles sympathize and he gives them the information on where he hid their songs just before he dies.

The Beatles put on a concert from on top of the mansion to return color to everything. The environment sheds its bad paint and the clockwork people escape their superstructures. Everyone claps as the concert ends.

The clapping resurrects Micheal Jackson, and he divulges information and gives them a plot device or some kind of exposition, then transcends.

Making this the second world would be good, because just the basic magic would be removed and the monsters could be easy enough to deter with only simple attacks, it could also be a good place to introduce advanced tests of the physical aspects of control, after basic movement and magic is covered in the first part of the game.

Reading back at this Micheal seems like a variation of The Mad Hatter in American McGee's Alice, but that wasn't really my intention. Good source of ideas for innocent people turned into clockwork monsters by a corrupted guy that ends up being alright, but I was thinking more about Epic Mickey, old Clock Tower games, and Barney Hide and Seek when it came to the art in my head.

Also the sky was a dome of flaking paint and there were a some people with searchlights and a big hose at the top of a tall tower that were tasked with repainting it. They repainted it for night and day, and during the night they enforce curfew with their paint gun. Occasionally there is a huge rumbling and big heavy chips of paint come down, then they have to repaint all of the blank spots.

They aren't bad, they're being forced to do it. If you can draw their fire you can use it to take down enemies that are too strong to evade by hitting them with your instrument or whatever. Since Micheal took your songs, you're mute and cannot talk to the people in the guard towers or the peasant villages around the mansion that have been reanimated; they just sound alarms so that the more militant ones can attack you.

You can get the guard towers to shoot eachother if you can draw their attention high enough or rebound the paint somehow. There are also things that you can interact with all over the place to launch projectiles or distract or otherwise evade to help you get by without magic. During the night you can reflect their searchlight beams to blind the towers and other things, but it can also blind you and draw enemies to you

There is a large eight legged mechanical sun that walks across the sky dome during the day, and at night they paint it blue with polka dots but it hardly gives off any light like that. There is a roughly two hour period while the sun is being painted that the only light comes from fireflies, and a one hour period after it sets that the dome gets smoky because all the paint is being burned off. This makes everyone sick unless they use a gas mask, and obscures vision. Gas masks can be stolen at civic areas where the clockwork people congregate, they only work once and then you need to get another. If you can't find a gas mask then it makes you move slowly and stop periodically to double over, the coughing causes monsters to run at you.

It's scary as hell. You can hear them running but you don't know where they are, and they make their strange gasmask-wearing petrified monster sounds. Sometimes it gets really loud and you expect to see them come into view and just slaughterglomp you, but then you hear them continue running right past you.

Sometimes, they do come into view.

You cannot use the searchlights or paint gun to your advantage during the sun painting or the paint burning because they're either occupied or they can't see anything. Same thing for right after a paint chip storm, since they have to repaint the sky.

The fallen paint chips are used for architecture. It's like when you stack natural slate, only mostly blue. There are some assorted pastels and white because of the rainbows and clouds.

Also, Think about the level in bioshock at the theater where the stagelights made people into statues with plaster. That's a good influence that I was probably referencing subconciously.

tl;dr

Wow, I ended up writing more than I intended. I hadn't really thought about it that long.
