Its more romantic to go flying in a x-wing and using the force to take out the Deathstar compared to a guided neutron disassembler bomb :3

You guys are overreacting, technology like this has existed for a while :\

Man, Hyde, this is brilliant stuff.  Like, we think of all these great things and we never remember them!  I'm going to go get my tape recorder!
P.S. I'd want a robotic eye that can zoom in, see infrared, and take pictures.
Seriously, I'm worked this all out.  I've given it thought for a whole year.

Well okay I am sorry for not knowing, jeez. This is just getting in massive communication.

Food was made since life started and it still rocks.

yes, yes there are cars that run on hydrogen and the exhaust is water vapour.

they aren't mass produced yet, but you can get one in germany.

BlackberryClock

Quote from: TremcladClock;1275851Yeah, but not as much $$$ as the fund raisers, special clinics and associations for cancer make. A miracle cure would put these things out of business if perfected and mass-produced.

Oh, and that would mean the people employed by these institutions would be out of work, too, if it came to that.
This is how the free market works. All of the people at the vacuum tube factories are out of work too.

Even better, then!

Also, guys, I think Buttplug was quoting That 70's Show in his post, hence my response to it.

In the same way most of our projectile weaponry would completely destroy everyone in most Sci Fi fair.
Your average submachine gun would take down just about anyone in the Sci Fi world. All these "shields" designed to block laser fire would be absolutely useless. Imagine a Jedi trying to block a spray of bullets hitting him in all areas of his body.
Any assault rifle would be infinitely more useful than blasters, phasers, or anything of the sort.
Princess Leia wouldn't simply have gotten singed on the shoulder had a sniper in our military hit her. Would've gone through her arm and probably ended up on the opposite side of her chest, after penetrating heart and lungs. The current kind of weaponry that most of our men use over in Iraq packs more impact than the giant laser cannons in Star Wars. The wimpy lasers flying everywhere do nothing but make neat sounds and put on a cool light show.

Slurpee

and in reality you can't see them, and in space they don't make any noise

thats because it WAS IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY where evolution had been going for 222222 times longer.

I noticed they got it right in akira, which makes it the only movie besides 2001 that I know to have acknowledged that.

it was pretty cool, but it would probably be really lame in an all-space movie

just like having massive rotating space-stations to simulate gravity would be lamer than the star destroyers, which were basically boats that could fly

University of Pittsburgh FTW!  Makes me proud to be an alum (and a little unregretful of my massive student loan debt).

I cherished every day there, because I knew it was an extraordinary place.
