I didn't think it was possible to make something so smoothly animated with a major company's sprites, even if it is a Harehare Yukai parody:

If nerdery could be measured in liquid volume, the amount required to create this movie would be so much greater than the average. Usually, such movies can be pulled off through the efforts of one half-assing Flash animator; however, in order to become what it is today, this movie required:

- Listening to an anime theme song repeatedly so as to compose an 8-bit rendition.
- Drawing customized backgrounds, in some cases, to reflect those used in the actual introduction of which it is a parody.
- Putting actual effort into obtaining, modifying and smoothly animating video game sprites.

There were a million places where the creator could have potentially stopped and said, "wait... what am I doing?!," but he didn't. And that's what makes this movie stand out.

Edit The previous post assumes that the creator did everything, although there is a distinct possibility that collaboration (especially re: 8-bit music composition) was involved, in which case it is not such a great individual feat; however, the amount of liquid nerdery required to create this movie remains the same!
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

If only the NES was that dynamic, it was awesome as hell still

It's not like low resolution impairs an animator's ability to animate.

For most American animators, that actually seems to be the case.

I mean, take a look at Newgrounds. coughcoughSuperMarioBrosZcoughcoughSpriteMoviescoughcough

No, it doesn't. Newgrounds is a really poor example, as most animators who use sprites don't even consider making their own graphics or adding new animations to existing ones.

It's actually easier to animate such small graphics, seeing as you're working with far less space between keyframes and you're placing individual pixels instead of making brush strokes.

Uh oh, tides turning on this thread... THIS R SUX!

No, actually, I thought it was neat. Seems like too much work for what it is.

Good point. Still, it's nice to see a high FPS fbf animation with well-made custom sprites.

Remember, they're Japanese.

EDIT: This one compares it to the original. Again, pretty good. For some reason, it seems appropriate that the camera zooms were neglected. Probably because they're 8-bit sprites.

Quote from: WhiteClock;1278091There is exceptional sprite animation but I don't think that was one of them. It was very smooth animation but it wasn't very exceptional as far as sprite art goes.

I remember, there was one posted on WTFNOOB and eventually on the Clock Crew. Vicious had the main character, a white duck, as his avatar for a while and I know it's popped up here too. Anybody remember or know what I'm talking about?

I remember the duck, but not the animation. :wiebel:

ArgoonKlok

Always loved that movie. It's perfect in every way. Especially pregnant zombies.

edit: nes megaman has always looked like sautéed ass, it's impossible to make that sprite look good
which is weird because those games had some bitchin giant robots.

ArgoonKlok

There really is no beating that damn earthbound duck.

This video has both superior animation and a much better 8-bit redition of the song.
I ran into this months ago, and I didn't even know what Hare Hare Yukai was!  I just plain liked it. In fact, I still like it more than the original.

It was a bitch trying to find the link because there are few english characters in the title  for me to search.  I had to try to remember how I found it about 5 months ago.  It took me 45 min. to figure out that it's from the classic multi-platform fighting game "Karateka."
