The concept is to compose music one millisecond at a time. Curtis Roads is the pioneer of the genre as he has been working on the same piece for two decades. It's recently hit the fifteen minute mark, but it takes roughly a day to compile as his dense music is not yet computationally feasible. There are some less complex examples available on the net resembling grainy chiptunes.

I cannot find any free and functioning examples of Road's stuff on the net. :(

Samples. Curtis likes using bits of buzzing bees, dropping marbles, car crashes, royal philharmonic, rain, bubbles popping, birds, wood groans, breathing, percolating coffee, licensed music, mathematically beautiful waveforms, sexual noises, tides, etc.

Most other people just use low bitrate videogame noises though, it speeds things along.

there's tons of variations on the term "micro music"

There's Micro Techno/Micro House etc. made from tiny samples of stuff, I think Ricardos Villabos does that I forget who all it is. There's tons of the electronic dance type scene that does that, pretty big subgenre really just wiki stuff on it.

Xanopticon makes break core from super short samples arranged complexly.
