Claiming credit for a work you did not do and at the same time surpassing others with this stolen work is not trivial.

First of, this will greatly boost his grades and give him an unfair advantage over others in a market that is rather slim as-is. Thus causing someone more deserving to be out of a job.

Secondly, as stated before, this is something that will turn into a huge deal when he actually moves on. Either in the form of incompetence or continued plagiarism. In either case, what the fuck is he doing on that workforce?

I have an art student who traced armadillos for his entry to the Texas rodeo art contest. I discretely pulled him aside and warned him about plagiarism, he pretended to heed, and ended up winning second place in the region with the same drawing he said he was going to get rid of.

I exposed him and he had his award revoked. The school reprimanded him and revoked his recess for two weeks while his parents freaked shit on me for upsetting him.

Telling the teacher yourself might create suspicion and unwanted tension, so the direct approach would be a last resort UNLESS you have absolute proof.

I think a big problem though may be the "incompetence" of the teacher, since if he were really skilled at what he was teaching, he probably would have been able to spot these discrepancies, though I know that not all teachers are actually experts at what they teach so I don't want to jump to conclusions.
