I make my flashes within an hour.
Practise a lot and don't try too hard to create that clockcrew epic masterpiece you have in mind.

Keep it simple until you have enough skills.

Not enough practice, probably. You're doing pretty well, I should say. Try using more shading and whatnot, and don't be afraid to redraw a line if it's too shitty.
