Automatically Merge Double Posts

lets say you post, then you post in the same thread, instead of editing your post so you aren't double posting, it merges the posts, while still sending the thread to the top of the page.

I know some forums that do this and I hate it.  Sometimes a post just works better in two parts.

how about an option to turn it on and off for each person, so some person's posts merge, and other's don't

We have an edit button. If people double post, they mean to double post. Anyway most of the people who abuse this are just dicks.

People should be smart enough to edit their posts instead of posting twice in a row, there shouldn't be a need for a auto doublepost merging system.
