I guess it has to be done because everyone does it. Even some professional librarians think that having Facebook and MySpace pages are a good way to promote library services-- even though it's not. I've read in marketing magazines that they are not good for marketing purposes.

3 weeks ago I tried to explain this at a conference during a panel discussion about Web 2.0 meant to introduce 40+ yr. old librarians to the concept. I was told I would have 20 min. and prepared a 20 min. presentation. The moderator didn't do his job and I ended up with 5 min. :jerk:
At least I had time to define "Web 2.0" and explain what it actually is. (I was the only person on the panel who remembered to do that, no kidding.)
