if you get zelda, mario odyssey, mario kart 8 and smash you now have a modern day n64 and could survive off that entirely for a few years.

but donkey kong country tropical freeze and hollow knight are also really good options. hollow knight is the first truly great and unique metroid/castlevania style platformer I've played since cave story. (also on switch but kinda overpriced there).

I’ve been watching Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on Netflix this week. Had put it off for a good long while due to the show being lead by Max Landis (who I don’t much care for the work of), but I was feeling shitty and needed some TV to watch.

Got to say, heavy Doctor Who vibes- this is definitely Landis doing his best rendition of Moffats run. And it’s enrapturing, really keeps you invested with piece meal information on what’s happening until it all clicks together in that Holmesian sort of way. The blatant absurdity of it all and how random everything seems is all hand waved in the very premise of the show. There is however one issue;

Dirk Gently in this programme is the most obnoxious character I’ve ever seen on television. I can’t speak to the actors actual ability but in this role he is a low rent Matt Smith wannabe chewing his way through every second of screen time he occupies, dragging the entire production down from solid gold to watch at your own risk.

I’m about three episodes into season 2, and I feel it jumped the shark in comparison to the first so I can see why it wasn’t renewed for a third.

I wonder if a good adaption of his work is even possible. then again I feel that way about a lot of books. you're always gonna lose something changing from one medium to another, you just gotta be good enough that the resulting work is still worth it. the shining loses a fuckton in the transition but stays good.

the 2005 movie still breaks my heart. They say Adams had some hand in the script before his death but it's hard to think of it as being representative of his vision just on the basis of how far it misses the mark. How perfect would Hitchhiker's Guide be for the kind of long form TV we have now in this post-breaking bad/game of thrones world?

the whole idea of animal crossing is that you check in every day and maintain your town and watch it grow and get bigger

I mean, that's why I liked it. The TV series kind of stands out because it was close to the bookâ€"which also wasn't the original versionâ€"but the fact they're all so different besides the earth part and the characters just means h2g2 fans have more media than anyone else
