Did anyone ever find a way to force Flash 8's Paint Bucket Tool to accept a certain (Ctrl-B'ed) bitmap as a fill?

Like when you're cutting out a bitmap and you want to fill in some holes, filling them in would be easier than making the shape align with the outlines, right. Eyedropper doesn't work, that just takes the color of a single pixel. Flash has that functionality, it just seems completely random when it does happen, like you're clicking away on that bitmap and suddenly it's there instead of a solid blue or whatever. When you really need it though, it doesn't happen. I googled it and using the Color Mixer you can sort of force it from that menu, except that doesn't seem to take into account the size of the already existing shape on the timeline.

I can seem to force solid colors, but not bitmaps. The third (?!) Paint Bucket icon under properties is way more responsive than the main one under Tools. When I click something, anything, it immediately assumes that color. When you open the color swatch in that one, but exit without making a selection it forces the original solid color to the main Paint Bucket. Not bitmaps though. Why is the main Paint Bucket less responsive anyway? What's the point of that?

Fake edit: I don't believe it, Eyedropper now does exactly that. What the actual fuck. I've been using this program for fifteen years and dealing with this exact problem for fifteen years and not once did it work properly and now you make one post about it and all of a sudden it works like it's some intuitive goddamn feature.

"Why yes sir, watch my icon change because I recognize I'm hovering over a bitmap, of course I recognize it's a bitmap... don't be silly."

I'm thinking maybe it didn't work like that in Flash 5 and I just assumed it didn't work in Flash 8 after I made the switch and never bothered to check or something. FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS.

This is "ALWAYS USING MOVIECLIPS OVER THE HIGHLY PRACTICAL AND VERSATILE GRAPHICS" all over again.

I've written (parts) of a script, it's the scriptiest script and it requires more art and animation WORK than all my previous flash movies combined.

Like part of it is based on some dream interpretation of a movie I've never even seen, so I probably should watch that movie first to know if what I have in mind can even be pulled off.

Some ideas are kind of cool, like the main characters are these colossi arguing in this vast, but tiny landscape of castles and towns, sort of like those rock giants fighting in The Hobbit. So now I'm tracing a boatload of old-timey photographs of battlements and shit for a collage. It's a hassle. Plus I have this image in my mind of some weird perspective shot from down in one of those streets with a creature looking up in fear at one of the colossi. How the fuck am I going to pull off shit like that in flash.

Coming soon to a Newgrounds near you, Clock Day 2036.

That was an afternoon well spent.
