I think in that context it just refers to how arduous a task picking cotton actually was, so a cotton-pickin' minute would just be an extended period of time.

But to call someone a cotton-pickin' so & so derogatorily, equates them to the position of a black slave, as far as i understand.


I could be misreading it, or overthinking it, in which case im probably just racist.
