That's what I figured they were going to do, Bale said he was done playing Batman but Levitt gives them a way to still have a tie-in the the Dark Knight universe.

Yeah, I have to question the reliability as well. They admit that it's just speculation but seem to be basing it off of something that they aren't sharing or even admitting is real. Like: "they appear to be solidifying deals for Gordon-Levitt and, potentially, at least one other actor from the Nolan films to doââ,¬Â¦ something." Why do they appear to be doing this? Based off of what? Is there an interview or source that we're not seeing?

I'm not saying I don't want it to be true, but I'm doubting it.

I think we'll see JGL as Nightwing before we see him as Batman.

Also, Bale has said that if Nolan wanted to do a fourth movie he would. But I think Nolan is serious about being done, so I doubt it'll ever happen.

rises was the perfect way to end the trilogy because jgl's character was named robin

he wasn't dick grayson
robin, in the Nolan trilogy, is not a mask
John the Cop was the mask he wore
Robin the Orphan is who he actually is

batman's cave of paranoia and lies is converted into an orphanage
batman, who murdered a castle worth of ninjas, batman, whose lies about district attorney Harvey Dent (who he dive tackled off a skyscraper btw) resulted in countless deaths, batman, who was a man, is now more than a man, who could have been any man. the movies are his legend, jgl and the orphanage are his legacy. so like any myth his human indiscretions can be buried*, and robin, a public servant, can begin to do real good in his stead. robin hood, who gives to the poor, replaces zorro, the masked millionaire who violently murders criminals.

*batman killed seriously a lot of ninjas in Begins and then immediately turned around and wentI DON'T KILL.  I HAVE ONE RULE. a lot of people didn't notice because the film is shot and edited to gloss over the dead ninjas, but it wasn't just burying a plot hole (Nolan is a better filmmaker than that) it's because the film was batman as a myth, and Batman the myth somehow got out of there and stopped all the ninjas without blowing them to kingdom come. the superhero myth and batman in particular has always been in the same archetypal tradition as the cowboy and the renegade cop: the flaws in a society cause the people of that society to dream of a person who can rise above the system and in so doing solve the problems the system can't- somebody superhuman enough to both be able to do so but still go uncorrupted. the Nolan trilogy is about the need for society to learn to take care of itself after the man with no name rides off into the sunset, and, in part, about how the man with no name can not really exist- we are all of us only human, and for batman to exist, he would have to murder a fuck ton of ninjas.

to continue the Nolan series would be a fantastic way of missing the point in a long, long comic book tradition of doing exactly that in exactly the same way.

Very, very well said.

I never really gave much thought to all of the dead ninjas, but you bring up a really good point. I was going to say that it was before he became Batman (which it was), but the fact that it comes directly as a result of his first objection to killing a criminal negates that fact. Not to mention the fact that he probably killed the very man he was trying to save in the process. Hm.

Also, I very, very much agree with your last statement.

Yeah, some of the other stuff was "meh," but that part was pretty hilarious.

I have to say that Doctor Who vs. Doc Brown was the single most disappointing ERB i've ever seen. The 4th Doctor's bit was decent, but every time Brown started it just went to shit.

My Advanced Essay Composition professor is an editor of a contemporary music journal, and he made our last assignment a music/band/album review. I wrote it thinking "how awesome would it be if he was all 'this is so good, I should publish this in my journal'" but I kept thinking I was being pretty stupid. He returned my paper today with a note asking if I wanted to clean it up a bit for publication. Fuck. :aaa:

I think the bigger problem with connecting the two continuities is the same question every non-Superman story in a Superman inhabited world faces: Why the fuck couldn't Superman help?

Couldn't they at least switched up the formula or something? After the third its not that funny.

That's addressed (to an extent) in the comics. 1) Batman won't let him most of the time because Gotham is his city, and 2) Superman tries to take over during No Man's Land but realizes that he's not suited to the subtlety that's required to help people in a city like Gotham.

Those reasons probably wouldn't fly (or would take too much set-up) for a movie, though.

It'd still raise a huge question about it when the plot of the third movie is involved. If this is a universe with a Superman, why not have Superman take all three trucks into outerspace or something? We know he wouldn't get hurt and we know hes faster than human reaction time. No way they're gonna be able to activate the bomb before that happens.

no way, i think you guys missed the point about the dead ninjas. what does Batman say to Ra's al Ghul at the end of Begins? "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you." -> direct reference to the time he didn't kill all those ninjas. He just couldn't save them since he was so busy saving Ra's al Ghul.
