I've learned that anticipating it too far in advance makes you go out and buy new party clothes, and shot glasses, and dancing shoes, and then by the time the party comes you're so excited and expecting it to be the most partyrific party anyone's ever partied, but then when it's only "really good" and not "incredibly amazing" you start wondering why you bought new dancing shoes.
