Anybody see Batman v Superman?

I prefer less angsty Supes but the film delivered pretty much exactly what it promised. The OST was pretty great.

<SPOILERS>
There was maybe one too many dream sequences. The Mad Max-esque scene with Batman in the 'future' was obviously a dream from the immediate get go and doesn't really contribute anything other than establishing what Bruce fears Superman would become, which we are already aware of. They're meant to be premonitions of a kind, with the allusion to the fact that Bats kills Lois and it sends Clark off the deep end, but it all seems very out of place. The bit with The Flash seemingly came from nowhere, and more blatantly stated what the previous dream sequence had already established more ambiguously. Moreover the Justice League cameos were ultimately meaningless although not overly long or intruding. Cutting that stuff would have made it a better movie on the whole imo. I think everyone who cares has pieced together via the trailers that Doomsday is in the movie, and I like how he was handled, but I think that's a point of contention in the comics reading crowd.
</SPOILERS>

7/10 will probably watch the directors cut to see what didn't make it.

There really aren't spoiler tags yet? :(

I don't think they were dream sequences. The Flash was using the Speed Force to travel back in time, and there's no way Bruce would have any knowledge of that to dream about it. Likewise, you can see Darkseid's omega symbol in the desert sequence, and there is definitely a parademon that swoops down at one point, which Bruce would have no knowledge of either.

Okay, well, if they WERE dream sequences, they were in some way informed by future events, meaning that Bruce is either aware of things we don't know, or they're going to say his subconscious was affected by time travel... or something.

S - P - O - I - L - E - R - S

well yeah that's what i meant in saying they were meant as premonitions, my point was moreso that they're flow-breaking in the movie. The Flash cameo in particular was better suited for a post credits position.

Spoiler:

Yeah, I can see that. I think they're trying to drop these things in there so that they make sense when the other movies start dropping, though, to make them feel more unified and not like they are thinking up each one as they go. Neither the B v S fight nor the B+S+WW v DD fight do much to set up the Darkseid conflict that they seem to be using as the focus for the JL movie, so I think they added the premonitions in there so that when it comes together later there's sort of an "ohhhhhhh" moment for the audience. I might be wrong, of course.

Objectively it's messy and they cram a lot into a movie that's not long enough for all of it to fit comfortably. I liked it because I know the lore well enough to not have to pay attention too closely to know what was going on. It seems aimed pretty squarely at existing fans, unlike most comic book movies that try and make things easy for newcomers. So I think it is objectively bad for people who are confused by it, but could be objectively good for those who aren't. Which I think explains why it has a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 29% but 73% audience score, along with a 7.5 user rating on IMDB.

I think a 7.5 is a pretty fair score, by my own measure. I might bump it to an 8 for Wonder Woman.

Be honest, would that be lowered to a pure seven if she was wearing pants?

We like Wonder Woman for different reasons, it seems.

Is it true that in the movie, batman is just full-on killing people like crazy?

RobClock

Yeah Batman kills a bunch of dudes, but I'd say Afflecks Batman is one of the highlights of the movie. He does a fantastic job and the character works well.

I'd say the movie is objectively mediocre. It isn't horrible, but it isn't great either. I enjoyed it for what it was.

SPOILERS REGARDING THE END OF THE FILM SERIOUSLY DONT READ THIS UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN IT
Someone pointed this out to me but, at the start of the movie the Waynes are walking out of the theatre after seeing Excalibur and the way that Supes and Doomsday kill each other at the end mirrors the death of Arthur and Mordred. I thought that was neat.

The "never kill nobody" morality always came off as pretty insincere to me...you can't knock people out without chancing death or all sorts of permanent damage.

I like batman the most when he's not beating on people at all. When you're a super-genius in every possible way, you should be able to avoid punching entirely.

That's one of the reasons I love the Nolan Batman movies so much. In The Dark Knight, Batman realizes "what he has to become in order to stop" people like the Joker (throwing Falcone off a building, spying on millions of people, torturing the Joker) and he knows that it's not really fixing anything.

Oh, wow. That is pretty cool. I knew there must have been a specific reason for that choice. I thought it might have had something to do with one person wielding power that no one else could. I bet there are even more nods to it throughout the movie, then.

I know. I know. But one more because it should be a movie. This was BB10's response to my long post on these forums (you know, there one where I put bright red text clearly labeling which code snippets would make his video loop):
I guess I should clear the names since the facebook group is private?

yup that's every newgrounds experience I've had for the past few years

i can't believe how bad that site's become :(

PhantomCatClock

I think I disabled adblock on it and it still didn't work, then I reenabled it and it started working again. Refreshing on a flash usually does the trick
