Do you find yourself crying more as you're getting older? I don't mean bawling like a child going weeeehhhhh weeehhh. I mean feeling kinda melancholic or something and leaking some water from your eyeholes. Every once in a while you might let out a whimper or two. Or one of those tingle in the back semi-hiccup things. Whatever the fuck those are. It's been happening to me more and more often, particularly when listening to (classical) music. I don't necessarily know what getting older has to do with it. Maybe I'm just a depressed fuck.

I went the opposite direction. can't cry properly anymore. even when it would be normal to.

jk you do

tbh I could see witcher making it in. my personal predictions for wave 2:

-Doomguy
-Some guy from the fire emblem three houses DLC
-Pokey Minch (only EB character to not have a spirit in game)
-Character from a forgotten first party NES or GB game. Mole Mania maybe?
-2B wearing a hijab
-Reggie Fils Aime. his taunt is exactly what you think it is.

I've found myself more susceptible to the emotional weight of films and music doubtlessly. Stupid shit and I find myself sobbing like a bitch. As far as day to day life, I can't remember the last time I cried, but for whatever reason a minute long animated short about a girl and a snowman had me wrote off for twenty minutes.

There was a blizzard yesterday up here in the great white north. I didn't go anywhere, called off work for the day, and when I went to leave the house this morning I came to discover the battery in my truck had croaked. $150 to replace it. Due for an oil change, as well, and the CRA sent me another letter looking for the GST cheque they sent me last month back.

It's one thing after another lately and it's really getting me down. I've been trying real hard to get myself back in the green financially and it seems like I just can't.

I was thinking about MyFrogbag today. It's a shame it died when it did because despite it being created for our own use, it seemingly got a lot of traction (much to Blue's dismay), but had it come to be now, or lasted into this era, he could have started a Patreon to cover its hosting costs and probably turned a bit of profit.

money

I don't have much to contribute to this conversation because I feel personally responsible for not making any money, but also I blame THE SYSTEM for not beating down my door to give me a cushy job without any evidence that I've ever done the thing I'd be paid to do

oil change?? I'll tell you when I need an oil change!!

I may be misremembering the story, but if I recall correctly, myfrogbag was hosted with bluehost. my memory tells me blueclock had some weird grandfathered deal with them (akin to, like, those people that signed up for Unlimited Mobile Data with AT&T back when mobile data was a new thing and AT&T didn't think anyone would ever use that much), but reviewing bluehost's hosting plans, they're all pretty cheap and "unlimited," so I don't know if that was really the case. maybe it's just that most web hosts (esp. "unlimited" plans) make you agree not to use your hosting for things like file hosting services, so bluehost was probably keen to get myfrogbag off its hands. wasn't it some rando incurring a DMCA or piracy thing that got myfrogbag shut down in the first place?

mfb was a great thing at the time, because for image hosting, it was competing with shit like photobucket (which was so limiting and money-hungry that everyone stopped using it) and imageshack (which had kind of a janky file management system). anyway wikipedia says imgur started to pick up in 2013, when mfb still existed. that was as painless an image host as mfb. if mfb had continued to exist, it probably would have followed the imgur trajectory. patreon's great if you've got an actual community that's emotionally invested enough to pay money for a free service, but that kind of support would probably have only been enough to keep mfb going for newgrounds users, and not for the bazillions of pump-n-dump randos who need file hosting. and honestly I don't know if even local support would have been enough. I don't know how satisfactory the stream of income from NG Supporter accounts is, but I know I didn't buy one, and there ain't the same stream of new faces with spare dollars trying to be down that there was 15-20 years ago.

of course, I haven't been considering the other mfb perk: you could put files that weren't images on there. big deal back then. but: today we've got MEGA. NG even has the Dump if you only need a place to put your collab files. MFB was dead simple, so it only had a couple of things going for it: an easy UI and straightforward file management, no ads, hotlinking. I don't care about ads. Obviously you gotta allow image hotlinking, but realistically, the minor convenience afforded by being able to hotlink an mp3 -- eg being able to play it in the browser -- isn't worth the bandwidth it'd cost to let people and robots just download that shit all the time. MEGA is fine.

yeah, fucken, i don't know when to stop talking but in short I don't think mfb ever would have been profitable unless it had ended up looking like imgur, and anyone who'd pay for the return of the mfb experience can pretty much get it by paying for a domain and cheap hosting, writing or installing a filehost script, and only sharing it with a couple of friends

it had a nice ui tho

i agree with pretty much all your points, it just bums me out, occasionally going through old stuff, that all my files for like 5 years are lost to time. wistful thinking i guess
