Jiggled various things, Took the RAM out and put it back in. Took the CPU fan out, there was a hilarious amount of dust in it. Like behind the blades, on top of that metal grid thing, it looked like there was one of those cork coasters in there. Doubt that fan has spun much in the last three years. Anyway, still the same. Just no response whatsoever, apart from that one LED.

I think I'll just get a new desktop. I'll have to decide on prebuilt or not. Depends if I can be arsed to do a custom one.

PhantomCatClock

honestly, a custom one is basically putting legos together if you use something like logicalincrements.com or pcpartpicker or newegg's pc builder to make sure it's all gonna work. Admittedly, while that first one is verra nice and simple, it's for gæming BUT with a prebuilt, for a lot of good, big name companies, you're only paying like... $75 for them building it for you, then you get a warranty and support for a couple of years. Though apparently a few very big names like to charge a lot more for bit less, still. Like, yeah, they're speaking Number Chinese, but the vocal indignity at a 1060 for that price should be context enough

Okay, so I figured I'd quit smoking with a bang. Really bookend it, for closure and stuff. So I got a pack of cigarettes and beer. Half the idea being that I would smoke so much it would make me sick. (The other half was probably the addiction saying "One more, one more, one more.") I was really forcing them down, to the point of gagging. So today I feel like shit, but it was really easy to ritually destroy what was left of the pack. So yeah, strap in, here goes.

RobClock

Good luck Grey. The native shop was closed this morning (who the fuck is closed on Monday but open all weekend?) so I was unable to procure a carton for the week- I have 18 cigarettes to see me through my shift tonight until I can get there again in the morning.

Just knowing you don't have any in reserve is distressing- too bad I can't smoke to alleviate the anxiety

GreyClock

Thanks. "Only" 18? Are you a chainsmoker? How much opportunities do you even have to smoke at your job?

RobClock

Yes, and you have nothing but opportunity on backshift

GreyClock

Here's something I didn't know about quitting smoking: it can lead to a whole bunch of farting.

you think you know what desperation feels like, and then your friend gets you started huffing nicofarts
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

It's frightening to imagine a man falling so low he can't just boil the nicotine out of his drapes like a civilized human being

"Nicotine, like caffeine, initially stimulates peristalsis, the wavelike contraction of the muscle in the digestive tract that moves the digestate through the system. However, after long-term use, the body becomes dependent upon nicotine to produce peristalsis, eventually weakening peristaltic action and thereby causing constipation."

My sense of smell is returning as well, so that's a neat combination!

Gotta say, I'll take the farting over the extreme irritability I had two weeks ago.

I feel pretty good, no moodiness, no insane cravings.

Maybe I've accidentally stumbled upon the golden path of how to quit.

Slurpee

long shot: does anybody remember/have that youtube video of the guy recording his desktop screen while muttering about why the clock crew is bad, and (more importantly) this was back when youtube let you do "reply" videos, and the response video somebody here made was just the exact same footage and they were repeating his entire rambling monologue verbatim except REALLY intensely in like a blown out reverberating bass?

the main part I remember was the guy muttered "they didn't even uh... they didn't even try :wiebel:"
and in the response they really leaned into the "uh" so it was like "THEY DIDN'T EVEN- ENNGHGH- THEY DIDN'T EVEN TRY"
and the opening was something like "THIS IS THE KIND OF CRAP CLOCK CREW HAS... RIGHT HERE."
I thouht it was biblo but I can't find it on his channel

on the plus side I did find this

how have I not seen this before. it's beautiful.

also brawl was fun come and get me internet. it gets a bad rap but there was so much love and fun put into it. not that 4 and 5 don't have that but they felt iterative like other fighter releases, rather than entirely new games like melee and brawl. They had less of a distinct visual identity than the first three games as well. 4 on the 3ds did have that neat kirby air ride town mode thing though, and 5 distinguishes itself with the "literally EVERYBODY is here also a good chunk of the stages" thing.

Since I'm an independent I get twice the political mail so now that the political season is over I tried making mulch out of it, but I encountered some issues. I was already worried when the soil developed an eerie red glow but then plants that grew from it were twisted and wrong. Their leaves formed mouths whispering strange alien words when I approached them, clearly unutterable by a human tongue. I touched one of the flowers and the petals closed around my fingers, gently, as if examining them. Three hours later my fingernails started disintegrating. The priest I hired should be almost finished getting rid of plants though. The rabbi and the imam were both killed but that can't possibly happen a third time.

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

Nope, spoke too soon there goes another twenty dollars. I don't even know who else to call the federal bureau of shamanism wont answer my emails. The RNC and DNC both told me this is supposed to be happening and wouldn't even help.

how high did we stack back when we tried to stack clocks

this is kinda how I feel about

I almost don't even want to post it because it gets so much backlash

d&d 4e

like, you have d&d 1, which almost nobody plays (64)

then ad&d and 3.5/melee, these more complete but still-kinda-janky expansions on the halfbaked first one, which people kept playing for about a hundred years, and which have huge design oversights that disproportionately reward hyperfocusing and capitalizing on tiny mechanical oddities and you have to houserule the shit out of for it to be anything approaching an even playing field

then you get this new one (4e/brawl), whose only crime is trying to be more clear and accessible, and all the people who got obsessed with mastering the arcane upsidedown moon math of previous iterations loudly proclaimed it unclean

and then everything after that (5e/3ds/wiiu/ultimate) is this kind of vague compromise with no clear vision of its own
