I've been enjoying reading pages where you've had more than one post

it's not obfuscated, I'm just a dickhead who uses overly helpful variable names no matter how small the scope

big bang harry: "I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire six shots or only five?' Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .357 Magnum, and that's the number of years it took to discover a proof of Fermat's Last Theorem-"

punk: "what?"

[audience laughs]

big bang harry: "shut the fuck up"

big bang harry: "you've got to ask yourself one question: 'does the probability space of there being a bullet in the chamber indicate a likelihood of favorable outcome over which I'd be willing to gamble my life?'

[audience laughs]

big bang harry: "well? does it, punk?"

am I the only person getting nervous about humble bundle

I've only been looking for the last two or three weeks, but every games bundle -without fail- has said six days left, then would count down to zero, then instead of hitting zero, go back up to six days. Okay, sure, maybe that's poor coding and not some FOMO anti-consumer lie. But now, as of the last week or so, there's a new filter system on the bundles that isn't mentioned anywhere. Not on the fansites, not on their updates blog. These filters make it much, much harder to see where the value line is—I notice it came up during the shitty bundle where the "Pay more than the $4.50 average" had five games in it and the $10 was get a month of Runescape (? Runescape is less than $10/mo, by the way) and nothing else. Those filters obfuscate that.

Oh, but it's all for charity, right? While looking at that blog for updates, they said they capped charity donations at 15%, going forward, "so they can keep bringing you the lowest prices on games"

It's just making me nervous, that's all. That being said, I'm preparing my "told you so" speech once they change their stance on DRM

PhantomCatClock

I asked about the filters and got a canned response along the lines of "So, you don't like our new slider settings"

PhantomCatClock

On the plus side, I was at least wrong about the sliders. There is a minimum charitable donation, not a maximum. That's a big minus to them looking like bastards, I am considerably less nervous, now.

I've been looking at alot of stuff about the game YIIK: A Postmodern RPG recently (mainly the fucking hilarious Running Shine review), and I think the developer of that, on The Dick Show of all places lol, brought up a really interesting point about game protagonists, even if it was him trying to defend his own work at all costs. I really like games with not even a morally dubious or evil protagonist, but just an interesting one. Films do it all the time because the interesting characters make an interesting movie, but games seem to shy away from it because of the relationship between the player and the character. You could divide most video game protagonists into two camps, non-characters like Soap from Modern Warfare or Jack from Bioshock, and "hero" characters, like Nathan Drake from Uncharted or B.J Blaskowitz from the new Wolfenstein games. I honestly find characters like the latter two so boring because they always make the right choices, and they never really go through any personal struggle bar maybe being shot at alot. Even in games I love, like Deus Ex Human Revolution, Adam Jensen just isn't a very interesting character, maybe bar like that last cutscene in Singapore at the end of the game.

I think the reason why is that in stories of good vs evil, which is ALOT of games, a character going through personal struggle usually mean doing some evil shit, and if the player has to partake in that, ESPECIALLY if they have no choice like in TLOU2, it feels really weird, and kind of (or literallty) forced especially when the game tries to all look at what you did like Specs Ops: The Line or some shit. The pretty obvious solution to this I always thought is to have some sort of karma system, or good and evil path, but actually make both paths as fun to play as each other, and don't make the evil path comically evil. If you could help it don't even call it the "evil" path. I think inFamous 2 does an amazing job at this, the way it actually presents a pretty strong moral argument for taking the evil path towards the end of the game.

I'd really like to write a character for a game who's less evil, but more reserved. People don't usually open up about their personal issues or struggles very easily, and I think something really cool could be done by having a protagonist who's very reserved even towards the player. It could make for a really interesting character.

I used to listen to the dick show a bit but i remember distinctly listening to an episode of it while playing Quake one day and just hearing him being really angry about some american political thing and i was like wait why the fuck am i listening to this dogshit and then i never listened to it again lol. Last I heard he was defending Cuties rlly hard.
