1. OBSTACLES TO RESISTANCE
 
   a. The Nazi forces posed a major obstacle to the Jews since the Nazi take over of Germany.
   b. France attacked on May 10, 1940, fell only six weeks later.
   c. It seemed that if two powerful nations (Poland and France) were victim to defeat, that no-one else could stop Hitler’s reign, especially since most civilians were unarmed, and helpless against war.
   d. In Dolhynov two young boys escaped the ghettos and refused to come back, the Nazis killed the entire population of Jews in the ghettos.
   e. After a Jewish man, Abraham Melamed, shot a German Police man, the Germans shot 120 Jews on the spot.
   f. For every partisan killed, 50 to 100 Jews were routinely executed.
   g. One of the most notorious single examples of German retaliation as punishment for resistance involved the Bohemian mining village of Lidice and it’s 700 residents. The Nazi’s liquidated the innocent civilians Lidice after Czech resistance fighters assassinated Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich.
   h. Jewish civilians were usually isolated and unarmed. If they could escape the Nazi Ghettos or camps, they would have a hard time fitting in with the crowd, making it harder to find shelter and food. Anyone who was found helping a Jew, was punished with death.
   i. Rumors soon spread of concentration camp, but was denied due to the human tendency to deny bad news. When as late as 1944, almost one-half million Jews were deported to Auschwitz from German-occupied Hungary, many had not even heard of the camp.
