my flash=fucked up

I've been under a rock for the past several years and am still using flash 7 (the cd I used to install it is the student edition but I'm running the standard edition through the magic of serial numbers). So recently I've had this problem that whenever I open flash the window where it says "start new project" and "open recent project" shows up as a blank screen and I am informed that I am missing several external importers (I don't even know what those are). Also, whenever I try to view movies I make (ie, not playing them in the timeline) it doesn't let me and I get another error message.

is there anything I can do or should I just get a new copy of flash?

Try reinstalling it, or just upgrade to 8 since that's what most people here use.
