Why don't I get good frames?!

Alright so in the past this computer was always the reliable computer and ran perfectly. Now it's nothing like that.
I recently reformatted, I have run Hi Jack This and virus scanners to no avail. This computer is 100% clean of viruses.

the specs are as follows.
Two HDD's, 500gb and 500gb. one is partitioned with just 500, the other is 250/250.
nVidia 8800 GTX (768mb)
2GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Dual Core E6700 2.66GHz
Abit AW9D-Max mobo

Despite these pretty good specs, I get <20fps in Team Fortress 2 and games that I should at least be able to run smoothly. With no viruses or anything, I have no idea what could be the problem...

Any suggestions?

I only get 60 fps at the highest settings and biggest resolution in TF2, you should feel sorry for me.
Also source games run depending on how good your CPU is more than graphics card.

What? I don't even know what you're saying here. I would kill for 60fps at highest settings and highest res, but right now I don't even get above like 30 fps at lower settings and lower res (windowed mode).

is it possible that my cpu is just shot?

Well I'm on 3.2ghz dual core.

Yeah but like I said, TF2 ran fine like a few months ago, nothing was wrong a few months ago and I would get like 60-150 fps.

Happened to me once, I formatted.

Read my first post, I already tried that...

Can I get some actual help perhaps or are you just going to keep on spitting out suggestions that I talked about in the first post?

Being that he just reformatted, he would have done this anyway.

The Spoiler

It sounds like your pc is in need of a physical cleaning. Most CPUs and GPUs (as far as I know) slow themselves down when they get too hot. If everything's covered in dust, it will get too hot. If you don't feel like opening it to look around right away, either check your CPU temp/fan speed in the BIOS or check your temps with some sort of tool that runs inside Windows (which is probably a lot more useful since you can't run TF2 from your BIOS). If I remember correctly the nvidia control panel has GPU temp monitoring. Open it up, run TF2, check the temperature. If it's at a bazillion degrees, chances are you need to clean your internals.

Just in case this didn't cross your mind already, vacuum cleaners can do very bad things to a PC. Stick to air in a can, except for dust that can be easily wiped away with a (dry) paper towel.

This is actually a bit of an insightful post. I kind of figured there was a chance it could be that my computer is in desperate need of a cleaning. I don't know if I have any compressed air right now, but I think I'll go take a look around right now with a paper towel.
