So I was talking to Flounderman on MSN when he linked me to this absurdity:

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/14/new-super-mario-bros-wii-future-titles-will-play-themselves/

As he described, this is the straw that broke the Flounderman. Personally, I'm amazed and wishing that this is some sort of joke.

You people are fucking over-reating, and this is old news.

1. Is is chapter select. It is optional.
2. Miyamoto said the way it would work is you could play the level from a certain point or watch other people play and take control at intervals, however it does not count towards beating the game. For instance, if beating the last boss unloacks something, you have to play the fucking game and beat the last boss, not just select it
3. Nobody is forcing you to use it, it is simply closing the gap between casual and hardcore gamer. Because it makes Nintendo money. Companies (read: people [read: things]) like money, they use it to make games.

Poltergeist

Wait a minute, you mean when my brother gets stuck on a game he has an option other than crying? WHAT THE FUCK NINTENDO?!

PirateClock

it's still pretty dumb, although probably not as dumb as Wii Fitness, what the hell is that about.

GearBoxClock

Old news, may lead to a better gaming community. Yawn

SnakeClock

Known about this for months, still don't care.

Loki Clock

I hate it in some ways, but then I remember that there are situations where you can't save your game but there also isn't a level select cheat, so in those cases I'd appreciate being able to continue to play from where I left off.

Munglai

yeah sorry guys this is only a bad thing if you're a big giant nerd

My favorite subjects of conversation are 4D geometry, the Clock Crew, and programming. I am a big giant nerd.

Look on the bright side, maybe they'll make even more challenging games now.

peyoteclock

i wish dwarf fortress could play itself!

Exactly. They'll be able to afford putting in more difficult puzzles and situations.

SnakeClock

They tried this in Alone in the Dark, why didn't we panic then?

YoYoClock

I'm not sure why they think even someone not very good at a game, or someone new to gaming is going to want to sit and watch bits instead of play them

Big Sexy Hair

Had sony made this move, I might have been surprised.

But since it's nintendo..
Rules 1 and 2 don\'t apply.

Oh just wait until the XBOX has it too, companies are just tasting the first dews of the motion control gimmick. This is the new direction of improvement in gaming now. First it was all about better pixel resolution, then realism, then the sharpest definition and now the new tunnel lead to more realistic move perceptions. Who knows, maybe in 2 generations we get to have live cyber sex. (not on a Nintendo system because, well, duh)

The Wii sucks for having the poorest reception now (and companies like Ubisoft got the whole idea wrong of not balancing their content for both usual and... sigh... "core" gamers. And No More Heroes doesn't count because they didn't even develop it)

This could either go wright or wrong, this is the new shit since the analog stick in the PS1 and Nintendo64.

remember all that shit about blue oceans and "revolutionaryways to play"? This is the reality now, I see it wasn't all gibberish but the new trend for all.

I just expect things to get better because the saturated libraries in either company is disgusting.

Going with this new feature, I find it to be the most pathetic thing ever, still they are trying hard to make others get into it. However thy are dong it all the way around, at least on how my case was.

I was introduced in gaming in 1995 or so wwith Donkey Kong Country 2 and I was in love with it because it was simply hard as hell and watching my sisters, cousins and aunt trying to beat it all the time made it something amazing, because it was collective challenge.

Introducing this idea could work but their only stable audience would be hollow and temporal, they will get bored of that quickly and forget it like the Backstreet Boys, Limp Bizkit, DanceDanceRevolution and hopefully Guitar Hero very soon. The big problem behind Nintendo's wacky plans on establishing new audiences makes the old one lose faith in them (though most of those who left are just a bunch of pissed dickshit crybabies)
