tbh that just seems more like them romanticising NAZI KILLIN then ripping off of duke nukem.

Quote from: Munglai;1607115no I guess you're right. I guess it feels like more in a change in his public attitude than in stuff he's actually made.

Well he's always turned his focus to a particular niche of film genre for each film he's made. There's always been a clear love of seventies exploitation, trash and cult films from the beginning. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were both influenced by the more niche gangster movies of the seventies. The innovative part was his focusing on characters and events that would have been a footnote of the original films.
Jackie Brown was a clear homage to the blaxploitation movies of the late seventies.

His focus now has become more involved in the exaggerated reality and high camp of these movies. The points of reference have become more and more niche and I think he's using his success and the freedoms that come with that to make the films he really wants to make. Revelling in the fun of those movies.

I for one am loving the ride and absolutely loved Death Proof and I'm really looking forward to Inglourious Basterds.

Never seen Mike Myers in a serious role, so I was interested to see how that'd go.

But yeah looking forward to this naturally.

LimewireClock

I saw the trailer for this yesterday, oh god it looks hilarious :P

I've pretty much enjoyed everything he's done and thought Death Proof was great as a silly film but I do miss the feel of his more down to earth stuff. It looks like Inglorious Basterds could be a bit of a return to that, while still keeping the ridiculous stories.

Oh yeah well while I love his more ridiculous films none of them really hit on a cultural or artistic level like Reservoir Dogs. I wouldn't class Death Proof as important but Reservoir Dogs I would.

People are saying this is less of an action flick and more like The Dirty Dozen - just what I was hoping to hear. Movies that go deep into the characters are my absolute favorite (12 angry men, the 7 samurai)

I only wish it was out now because I really want to go see a movie today but there is nothing good up...

FishbagClock

Looks so good! The kind of shit I watch.

Going to see a preview screening (it's only, like, 5 hours in advance of the actual release) tonight with friends.  I'm excited!

Faygo

AH! kill BRAD PITT IN HIS SHITTASTIC SOUTHERN ACCENT.

Biblo

Really loved it. A bit too long but I sort of relished its length, gave the scenes lots of space to breathe.
Some of the performances were fucking brilliant particularly Christoph Waltz as Landa.
I love how little the film gave a shit about history, and how much it basked in its campness. It fucks with your expectations I was certain Shosanna was going to kill Landa, and obviously the fact that they killed Hitler was fucking with us
Great!

Hey Biblo, what's the violence like in the movie?  Is it that ugly over-the-top gore porn kind of stuff or is the violence actually tastefully done?

Not that it affects whether or not I'll see it, but I'm curious.

Munglai

this movie is fucking brilliant

Well like, kinda both? The thing about the violence is that it's very realistic (but as a result very graphic) when it happens, but it's kept to a minimum. A lot of the violence is implied and only a few parts are very graphic. We see about 3-4 scalpings, a guy's head knocking around loosely from a beating with a baseball bat, a body being pretty disfigured as it's riddled with bullets, and a close up of a swastika being carved into a forehead Most everything else is more traditionally done.

Munglai

Christoph Waltz was really great. He made the character really believable and layered but was still a complete bastard and never stopped being one, which is exactly what you want from a bad guy.

Yeah he was fantastic. I was like "ah yes, this should be good" every time he appeared on screen

Topcatyo

Just got back from the movie.
It was incredible.  Absolutely incredible.  I want to watch it again.

Poltergeist

I am seventeen so alas I cannot see this fucking amazing movie.

I've gotten into plenty of 18's before, but the thing is I have a lot of friends who want to see this movie, and usually the larger the group the more less likely the ticket people are of letting you in if you look underage.
