I've been waiting for a game like this, I can't help but feel they're gonna fuck it up though.

Well honestly I feel I can get my hopes up at least a little for this one, just because of the fact that it's 2D, and thus solving most of the problems of the current state of the series right now. Of course Sega could easily fuck it up, but right now all we can really do is wait for more info. I mean, there's no real sense in discussing a teaser trailer, is there?

GTA IV was shit, it was what GTA III was for it's generation, a quite dull game but a great engine on which they built great followups.
Gears Of War 2 was great but not game of the year material, it was just Gears of War 1, just abit longer and hardly anything that pushed the genre forward except chainsaws.

Burnout Paradise, wow shitty game if I ever saw one. The other Burnout was much better since it actually made the races and such feel like they ment something instead of some very weak version of GTA where you could'nt exit your car.
Brawl, same old, good, but same old. Following what I said exactly.
Soul Caliber IV, once again same fucking old you fucking cunt.
Dead Space. One of the "1-3 games" I refer to as actually good, driving the industry forward with it's backstory and interface. Loved it.
Fallout 3: Oblivion with a new skin. Nothing new or exiting and only 20 levels without mod (aswell as not being able to kill children) makes it a good RPG but not world changing.
Left4Dead, not released in the same year as any of these but still it is a great game and in it's year of release one of the games which made me feel like original developers haven't given up on the industry.

Now if you've enjoyed me ripping your anus you can come to the conclusion that everything I've stated in this reply could've been figured out by cheer thought of will had you actually tried to understand what the hell I was talking about isntead of being a aggresive cunt.

Pardon the amount of swear words but I'm unsober and seeing some godamn assgnome flame me because I want good and groundbreaking games to be created makes me hate everything and everyone.

Speaking of which, I sorta hate how portable games are always discounted when looking at great games.

Also, 2008 was a great year for indies. Braid, Castle Crashers, World of Goo, anyone?

Please correct yourself. I assume you confused L4D, which came out in 2008, with the Orange Box, which came out in 2007.

Yo prop here's a tip: Talking about the game industry doesn't make you sound intelligent, or on top of the gaming world, it makes you look like a prick. There are sequels, there are original games, there are games based on old concepts, there are games that invent there own. But none of it really matters because I don't know about you, but I'm not rich enough to afford every single game. I don't own either gears of war, I have one GTA, I owned Super Smash Bros at one point, I've only owned one fighting game in my life, Probably two racing games, and one rpg. Sequels don't matter, classic game mechanics don't matter, because they're not old to me. Most games I've ever played have either been rented, or at a friend's house, so I only get a taste of the gameplay. The only series I own more than one of is Metal Gear Solid, and that's because those games are fucking tight, and that's all that matters to me, and that's all that should matter to anyone.

Anyway, MY THOUGHTS on this Sonic game is this:
We've all been saying Sonic needs to get back to his roots to 2D, but I can't help but feel that A.) They're going to fuck up badly (a thought that seems pretty common throughout the thread) and B.) It's too late. The Sonic series has been damaged beyond repair, time to kill off the blue fucker and start a new IP that hopefully isn't shit, Sega.

I bought Jet Grind Radio when it came out on the dreamcast and I bought Jet Set Radio Future when it came out on the xbox. I really loved both of them and I always thought they were exceedingly unappreciated.

I will say this has more potential of being better than the other new Sonic games, but that's only because it would be harder to fuck up the gameplay of a Sonic game in 2D than 3D.

That still doesn't mean this will be good. The only way that will happen is if the game allows you to slaughter every character introduced after the original three games while simultaneously stamping out and destroying all plot, dialogue and fanbases associated with the Sonic universe.
