Quote"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay" says Sega of America's Ken Balough. "Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots."
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??

I hate when people make it sound like Retrogames remade are news, how godamn pathetic is it not that game development has not evolved enough in 20 years to make old games obsolete?

Quote from: TequilaClock;1663665in what sense?
That games made in the past were restricted to immensly smaller budget and mostly storytelling as medium due to Gameplay and Graphics being immensly hampered by the current time periods limits, whereas now gaming pretty much has free bounds to make whatever they want yet they cant' seem to produce more than 1-3 good games a year.

Old games are not good they are just not bad compared to most things still being made today.

Except Golden Axe that game was wicked awesome.

Godamnit CorpsegrinderClock that was better than sex, I climaxed so hard at the end that my legion of sperm all climxed tiny mini-sperms.

I wish we could burn that unto half the gaming industri and perhaps they would actually try to make new games instead of at most trying to achieve the same fame as the prequal: How do you ever achieve higher standards when you do not have higher goals?

Half the reason Peter Moleneyx is famous is because he is the only godamn developer out there which dares to dream of making great games.

I follow you, it is mainly by the money producing industry it is now, a lot of publishers still got the wrong idea about what the audience expects and desires on a game today, talking genre wise of course.

The geniuses still prevail, they just need to bloom more as they are beginning to flow little by little. I would say that 90% of the developers that really do know about making it simple and effective are independent or at least managed to get their releases on download services like WiiWare, PSN or XBLA. Just take a look at Cave Story, Spelunky, CastleCrashers, Splosion Man and Shatter.

I think that it is sad ow fast video games evolved and became more open
for the society awareness. Now a lot of companies that never had anything to do with video games are opening their own game studios. WarnerBros just made their own not so long ago and they are making their own service OnLive. It was also rumored that Disney was going to buy EA.

Luckily for us, EA which is the second most powerful game company is considering in spreading original games with original ideas. Mirror's Edge sucked in various angles, but it was a good experiment; some former developers created Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure which is one of the hardest and unique platformers I have ever played.

So things right now are both wrong and a-ok. Without mentioning, we won't buy all the games we don't want.

EDIT: My opinion in remakes, is that they represent to me a tribute to what made the industry something great. I don't care if Donkey Kong Country is one of the most ported games ever, it was DKC once, and will always be for me. Mario released another tennis game? So be it, that won't stop it from remind us that it got other kick ass platforming games. Zelda got another senseless sequel? Who cares, they are all fun to me. It is good that they make stuff about already known characters as they are polishing of what was before.

I am excited about this generation for the new ideas and series. Bioshock is pure badassery, 2D is coming back to remind us it is not dead, Tim Schafer (another genius apart Molyneaux) is making a new line of games with absolutely original ideas, Cing, a japanese developer, is reviving point-n-click games in a fresh different flavor for the future. I could imagine 15 years now people at my age saying "hey, remember Fable II and Bioshock when we were in kindergarten? Weren't those such amazing games compared to those that are out now? I remember how mad mom got to us for how violent it was and hided our XBOX360. Oh, also remember The Beatles Rock band? My big brother and I used to play it all the time"

Hopefully things will be better in the future and not getting much worse by the time.

they're gonna fuck something up, horribly, and then everybody's gonna act disappointed, and then they'll be back in a couple of months with the next ostensibly good-sounding pitch.

the reason why Peter Moleneux is famous is that he tells everyone that he dreams of making great games; he's much more famous/infamous for hyping the shit out of his own games than making games from what I can tell.
