DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT WOOD BUT I dig the rich, low contrasting(within itself) darker woods.
They look great for furniture and such.
The lighter coloured woods feel a bit cheap to me and I really dislike wood that has a high contrasting patten, it looks wrong to me.
