I think we should withold judgment until we see these weapons in action. Maybe they'll lend themselves to new strategies.

EDIT: Also, we still don't know what the third weapon is.

actually, it does close the range gap that less skilled demos have. The demo doesn't have a mid-range hitscan weapon like everyone else does. If you're an ordinary demo, you just have a long-range weapon, a longer-ranged weapon, and a short range weapon (discounting the skilled demos who can airshot people with nades and blow up scouts at point-blank). It could also boost the demoman's defensive capability besides laying down sticky traps.

I'd like to see a scout try to heckle a demoman now with the shield. Plus the shield kinda works like an instant aggro bomb- the demoman charging a contested point will draw all fire towards him, freeing up other teammates to open fire.

also: Uber/Kritz/Uber+Kritz Targe Charge plus Eyelander will probably make everyone shit their pants.

and two weeks later, we'll hear TARGE IS OP, NERF EYELANDER, BAAAAW

demoman weapons were already perfect so im glad he got some gimmick weapons instead of perverting his beauty : )))

Sometimes melee is a legitimate strategy. I play a berzekerish-sniper and people never see it coming half the time. Melee can be a viable option as long as you know when to use it.

It's why I hate the FaN so much, or just momentum-robbing weapons in general. It's such bullshit that a melee rush can be beat so easily.

Really? I didn't play demo much before the war, but I've found that he works best at short range, assuming that there's just enough of a gap that the opponent can't hit him. I find that I get most of my kills at nearly point-blank range with the grenades.

Demos are much easier to kukri than soldiers that's for sure.

That's because most demos are too pussy to blow up grenades at point-blank range.

Also dodging deterrent stickies is way too easy.

That's why I use grenades at close range. To stand a chance as a demo, I find you have to be a bit suicidal.

Yeah, those grenades work all too well when they hit.
It was funny, this week I melee dueled a demo to death and he said he was grateful because otherwise the soldier on my team woulda got him.

SchnozzberryClock

Am I the only one freaking out right now over one of the classes having an actual name?

Like, seriously, WHAT.

Marlin Clock

I already stated my apprehensions at the deluge of backstory they've been piling on us the past few months relative to how they used to deal with it.

Also this pretty much confirms the pickaxe for the soldier. I wonder what it'll do.

TequilaClock

I wanted the soldier to have a garden shovel...

It'll be a demonic pickaxe that gives automatic skull hits and increases your rocket launcher's ammo capacity for every skull cleaved!

I just like that they're developing a story

Part of the humour of TF2 is derived from the sheer rediculousness and inexplicability of the whole situation of the game. They seem to be taking that approach with the backstory. I hope they don't get too deep into it though. The whole charm of TF2 is that you can tell the development team doesn't take themselves seriously at all. They're just out to make a fun game.

And make money too, but you know, they give fun a higher priority than usual.

This is not a story, is just an event. I doubt they will dig that deep to uncover much of reasons and stuff. Though so far we just know Red and Blu fight each other since the beginning of the 20th century but that's about it.

Saxton Hale is by far my favorite character from any game, book or movie. If you disagree you can take it up with him.
