I agree Mr. Non-pretentious! The best holidays are the ones we don't know why we celebrate!

AstronautClock

gonna have to disagree with you on this.

People celebrating holidays that have roots in things nobody seems to acknowledge is dumb as hell.

Having a holiday with a name that means "Holy Evening" (The eve of All Saints Day) celebrating darkness and evil (portraying pagan religions) is dumb as hell.

Well... At least not in developed countries.

Quote from: clammo;1686455halloween of now is completely different from halloween of the past so seriously shut up
Yea, but nobody knows it, so no. Sorry to inform people on the things they don't want to know. But people are so god damn protective of halloween its hilarious.

I know its one of the best holidays ever, doesn't mean it isn't also stupid as fuck.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1686456Modern practices of Halloween stems more from Samhain than All Saints Day. The same can be said for Christmas and the Winter Solstice or Yule.
I know, which is why I said pagan demonetization day. It was a Celtic harvest holiday (in which spirits of all natures were believed to be more apparent) , but the reason its all ghosts and goblins on halloween is Christians demonizing it, on top of it already having a 'dark' theme from paganism.

The only relation to all saints day is the name, as I said...
Quote from: CadillacClock;1686456The flaw in your argument is that you assume Christian traditions are primarily rooted in Christianity and not that of Norse or Celtic [festivals and traditions]. At which point, you are incorrect.
Funny because I never mentioned christian tradition (Besides the name). None of it is christian tradition.

Quote from: clammo;1686460only a douchebag would bitch about a day where kids dress up and go out and get candy due to religious ties no one gives a fuck about but other douchebags
Oh this thread was just supposed to be a cheap laugh at historical irony, until you started bitching of course. There there buddy, not all humor is for everyone.
Quote from: CadillacClock;1686461Do I need to bold the bits where Christian roots were implied? Maybe you should get better at wording your statements.
Maybe you should get better at reading statements before you decide to expand your asshole.
