Kind of a shame Ringo did not show enough of what he was back in the 60s. But Paul McCartney still sings, so my point is invalid.

Agreed, I always thought Ringo should have sang more.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1695805I read the book on The Beatles. They were a wreck near the end. Ringo never got a say over Lennon and Paul.

Harrison had a trick of bringing in other celebrities when he wanted to sing on a track. Hendrix, Clapton, and other Rock legends of the 60's - 70's still idolized Harrison and bringing them in the studio made Paul and Lennon feel inadequate, with a need to act modest and humble.

Ringo just didn't have the same voice. When Paul was asked if he agreed that "Ringo star is the best drummer in the world (circa 1950's or 60's*)" he replied, "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in The Beatles!"

*Ringo, contrary to any belief that he was useless, completely the changed the way a drummer holds his sticks and generally how-to-play. Before him, it was all very classical hold-your-sticks in a marching band sort of way. He also made drum solos and heavy hitting the in-thing to do.

He actually hated drum solo's an the only one he ever played on record was on The End, and that was only a solo coz they recorded it with other instruments but then cut them out of the mix later. still most of what you said is true

I think drum solos in the Beatles wouldn't really be their "thing", at least in their early days at least, as they go on experimenting with sounds that's why they had the solos.
they always had a way of playing together rather than separate parts, at least in the early days like in: "with the beatles" the way the played mixed together around into one great sound. but this is why i think Ringo does not like drum solos. But this is arguable...It did get rather messy closing in on the end of the beatles .
