I would be surprised if games increased in size too terribly passed no longer having effective limitations in scope or requiring compression. I feel like we're approaching a point where if games look any better they'll just take too much work to justify it.

All it needs to justify it is a market, which it has. Games are still on screens and don't look flawlessly real, so we've got a long way to go. I will be surprised if there aren't games that require at least a tb in the next 5 years or so.

New technologies are going to spring up that make it much easier to fill up that space with less actual human labor. I'm positive that we'll be seeing action games where the enemies have complete anatomy down to blood veins and organs that'll be made with the help of procedural programs that mimic the function of DNA in building bodies. Just think of how badass a game would be where you can cut a guy in half with a sword at any angle and you'll be able to see a bisection of his insides realistically and have realistic blood spatter and brains oozing. That'd take a lot of data but the people want it!

That's just one example, too. There are many places games these days cut corners that could be improved with more intuitive authoring programs that would eat up space.

Yeah the organ thing is something I've put some thought into, I mean not in the way Thor put it (sick boy) but in a way that if you shoot him in the kidney he dies, if you shoot him in the shoulder he gets to stand up and stuff.

Shooting someone in the kidney alone isn't exactly a deathshot. It would make difficulty harder if you had to shoot directly for the heart, arteries, or brain to get quick kills, and it'd be interesting to allow you to shoot arteries like the femoral.

I have about a terabyte of space. (320 internal 750 external) and I only have less than 100 gigs left combined. So yeah, a terabyte isn't that hard to fill. I can definitely see needing a petabyte of space in the future with how much more space things take up every year.

Music, art I've done, art I look at from other people for inspiration.  Those take up a considerable chunk of space.
Plus my "har har I found these funny pictures on the internets" folder is fairly sizable as well.

I don't have nearly enough music on my harddrive for how much I love it. I guess it's because usually I just go to youtube or something if I want to hear some orchestral stuff.

The original .psd's for my comics and artwork and stuff take up a lot of space because I draw my pictures four times their size and then I shrink them down to the size they're intended to be seen.
