so am i the only one here who would rather see people trying some fresh new things instead of still trying to progress the 'clock movie' concept

i mean theres no reason to throw that stuff out the window if you like doing it but in my honest opinion it is a limiting form of expression that has long lost it's purpose

it is too far removed from any sort of relevance and too much entangled in it's own little world of juvinile elitism

i guess this is an interest check for exploring new forms of expression and hopefully finding more things that bind us together artistically than this old decrepit identity made by 12 year olds almost 9 years ago

What we need is a new and clever way to enrage the lowest common denominator.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

Quote from: Corpsegrinderthe reality is that I disagree with you at least to the extent that I think that the clock crew is still relevant in that there is still an audience on newgrounds and on the internet in general that entertainment can be gleaned from and that can be conceivably taught to be less stupid in their exploration of the internet and I do not feel that aspect has lost relevance or significance just because folks feel too "limited". I don't think it has limited folks like ZL, and I think that people who hearken back to older styles and such do so because they choose to, not because there isn't plenty more out there to do.

that just doesnt do it for me anymore, after HERTOG JAN i felt like i hit a personal creative ceiling and i would like to pursue different ventures.

ive known you guys forever and want to build on that by maybe collaborating in different ways

i was hoping you would say that!

exactly

and i basically want to do non-clock stuff exclusively

with members of the clock crew : O

well fuck ya. whatever it is we plan, i call head writer.

If you kept up with the movies I've made recently, you'll see I've always been experimenting with different styles and methods of animation amidst the clock movies I made. I think Clock characters have a charm and appeal that can be pretty fun to use if done right, so I won't drop the concept so easily. Still, I do like a bit of diversity in my work, so I'm not tied exclusively to clock movies.

I care less about the clock crew being the clock crew than I do about them being the clock crew.

Anyone who feel subdued by the concept of Clocks in his artform is obviously not an artist and we need not care for the progress of such.

Progression is always for the individuall, which is probably why the few serious members do alot of other things than Clock movies and the older members who whine about us doing serious movies leave.

ProqagandaClock

Quote from: Golden Clock;1721511by the way just because i make clock flash movies doesn't mean i don't work on other forms of art.

Yeah I never got those guys who come in and go "Hey gais I'm not doing Clockcrew anymore because you're holding me back!"

A: We're a internet community, not a godamn garage band whos keeping you around with guilt
B: Nobody really cares in the long run.

clockradioclock

I don't think the clockcrew really ever strains creativity or originality. I've always seen it as clocks are free to make what they want but choose to make clock flash.

If, for example, someone makes something that isn't clock-related, they aren't ostracized or anything to that effect. If anything, people here tend to give much better feedback when it isn't clock-related than when it is. I think that when it's something original, people lose their clock bias and voice their honest opinions, which is appreciated.

I'm certain that people here are willing to try new things, but just aren't yet ready to ditching the, seemingly timeless, concepts of old. Much can come from the clockcrew with the proper motivation. The members here are capable of many things, but the clockcrew is a place for them to unwind and fool around.

well i just started noticing that by spending all this time thinking in terms of abstract clock entities i've become very dependant on the expected knowledge of my audiance

i do not need to present the characters, because according to clock philosophy anyone who matters already understands and anyone who doesnt is a heathen, the story doesnt have to make any sense at all so long me and my friends understand it and it doesnt have to be funny as long as i can laugh at the people who dont get it

i mean im still sympathetic towards these ideas but you have to admit that they sort of have a narrowing effect

not to even mention the fact that it took me ages to translate some of the ideas and concepts ive developed to things besides the clock crew

i mean that clockface starts to grow on you over the years, suddenly having to express yourself in the seemingly limitless possibilities of a human face can be a frightening experience

those 8 years of tweening circles around might have been better spent drawing walk cycles you know

but im not gonna deny the positive things, i discovered animation through the clock crew, i taught myself everything partly because of the clock crew and im still here posting about it today so all is not lost, but im pretty confident in wanting to do something else now

then spread your wings and fly away little bird, you always have a place in the Clockcrew. Every clock does :D

ill discuss the reasons if you want but in the end i'm mostly looking for people who want to do something

Yep, you've discovered why these flash-based communities are filled with younger audiences; the ability to enter the animation realm as easy as possible. Many users here come and go, with the majority never looking back at animation. The few that incorporate it to their interest (through animation or other mediums) manage to either stay, leave, or join another group.

Since a while now for a lot of older users, the Clockcrew has been nothing more than window to the past, filled with old memories of a younger time.

Animating Clocks all day and night does have its benefits and drawbacks as previously mentioned: people either experiment with this for the purpose of improving their abilities, or simply stay and focus on the ease of being able to send a message to a wide audience with relative ease.

By off-branching into another group or site that isn't Clock-related, all that will happen is that only a few good artists will migrate to that, while diluting the Clockcrew community even further.

Just because someone is member of the Clockcrew, it doesn't necessarily mean that's all they do. But I do agree with your point regarding how many of us focus on animating clocks a little too much, and with this I concur, it is a problem.

SilverCherryClock

people say this really often but nothing ever seems to come of it because anyone who is really gunning for innovative clock projects has become so bored and disillusioned with the crew that they never have any motivation. i think its a great idea though ftr

ProqagandaClock

Well DigitalLemonClock, I love you.

Get what you are saying and yeah it is all good stuff, I doupt anyone is offended and if they are they seek to be.
Though I never did make alot of Flash to begin with and the last three years I hardly have time to make anything but false "animation" through art so I don't feel held back at all by Clock art.

Humans with fruit heads + clock faces make for great "deep" art in the eyes of the beholders so I don't mind.
