Quote from: MorbidlyObeseBlackLady;1722727It's a netbook sorta. Netbooks may be able to install any program, doesn't mean they'll run it well (Shame too, I wanted FL Studio on mine). Specialized apps for a specialized system proves a good solution for a "special use" system.

A friend of mine was running WoW on an Acer netbook over a year ago. They're not as shitty as people make them out to be.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1722737So, it serves no legitimate purpose but to be a mediocre/poorly designed laptop?

It's a "multimedia content device" I.E Youtube, Movie Rental, Book Purchases and music. sorta what most people use netbooks for anyway, all that tweeting and facebooking.

Youtube (but nowhere else) Movie Rental (but not netflicks cause they use flash), Book purchases (as long as you're not looking for anything by Random House) Music (as long as you're ok with only using cloud stuff, carrying around an extra drive, or having a tiny music collection)

Wow tweeting and facebook. If I want a machine for browsing only I'll just wait until Google starts giving out free netbooks.

Just realized this thing might be super neat to read my digital comics on. Mmmm.. not worth the 700 usd though.

Who the hell is going to drag that thing around when it's virtually a big iPhone minus the phonecall options.

I don't see how this is conveniant in any way, I mean sure you can support your cause by saying it has this and that but can you picture yourself like in the train opperating that eye-soar?

Summary: Apple shits out another overpriced mediocre product to make hipsters in cafes look more douchey.
ass whore

AlbinoClock

Wow it's completely locked down too. 100% DRM and Apple controls everything. They can even delete your apps and books whenever they like.

Its a big fucking palm Pilate

Quote from: Renaissance Mini-Me;1722906I'd say "Man Apple too? Everyone will be switching to Linux" but linux fanboys have been saying that for years and it still ain't happened.

Le sigh.
we all know its better but it needs to lure is all in I think. I think making the step to linux will be a big step. since we are all so used to easy sleazy windows and mac

AstronautClock

nobody cares for that corpsegrinder we all want fancy graphics! and usability

I can't see any reason I would ever need this but I am aware that there's loads of people around who just use computers for dicking around and all they really need is something to check their emails and facebook on and occasionally write something down on so this is probably a really good idea.

I was thinking a bit today of what practical use it has beyond book reading and media viewing, and it got me thinking. The a4 appears to be a processor sort of like a hybrid between PPC and ARM. Most likely has multiple cores (Apple won't tell, shame too) and likely an NVIDIA Tegra 2 or ION (since it can decode HD video). With Multitouch, and a stylus (There is one for the iPhone you can buy), a Photoshop Elements or some Adobe suite of the sort could be made for the iPad. The SDK that was released for it shows that there is a new "local folder" section in the OS, which allows apps to save to that folder, meaning pictures could be saved in there, and in turn could be accessed by other programs. And since programs save their spots in the cache, or autosave the work, someone could open safari, copy the picture to the clipboard, and then open photoshop and paste it in, work on it (pinch to zoom) and use their fingers to crop and manipulate the image.

As for DRM, iTunes has been slowly removing DRM from all of their media, which is present in all of the Music store at the time being.

Quote from: Renaissance Mini-Me;1723213It seems like there could be a $300 solution to this as opposed to a $700 one

Yeah but there's a half-price alternative to every apple product.

Quote from: Renaissance Mini-Me;1723221Precisely the source of all of Apple's problems.

And yet the source of the high pricings.
There are always people who actualy buy the "REVOLUTIONARY" crap or just want to be hip hipsters. And they will pay big bucks.

Seriously though, iPhone is virtualy the only thing good that ever came from the shrivelling uterus that is Apple.
