You need a dragon Scale to evolve kingdra though.
It can be found on wild Horseas, but it's rare.
You can also get one in Mt. Mortar and buy them at the pokeathlon.

At least the some of the starters pre evolved forms in the past two generations looked cute, namely torchic, piplup, and turtwig.

These guys look kinda ugly.

Turtwig's line is the best looking of all the Sinnoh starters.

I will also say to wait for the evolutions. I honestly never got the appeal of Squirtle way early in 1998 until I saw Blastoise.

The fire starter could turn out to have some really cool evolutions, but for the most part when they've made pig based Pokemon I've been disappointed. Also the grass starter is one of the ugliest Pokemon ever

Those two, and their evolved forms. IMO Grumpig is the only dumb looking one.

True. Same general idea: While I'm not one of the fans who freaks out about how much Gen. IV supposedly has the worst designs, I can say that probably most of my least favorite designs come out of Gen. IV and I'm hoping they don't make the fire starter lame because he looks promising.

That being said I do not like Spoink's family or Swinub's family (yes I know not from Gen IV), simply from a design perspective. As pokemon I never used Spoink's family but I had a Mamoswine for a while and they're alright as a pokemon

Actually now that I look at it the water starter is an otter and otters are adorable.
I'll probably go with that one.

Also I felt that Gen III had worse designs than Gen IV. Torchic was the only one of the starters I liked. Turtwig was the first grass starter I really liked, but Treeko was the ugliest of any starter, and I don't like Mudkip because if I did I would feel like a memefag.

I've not really liked the Gen IV designs too much either. However Gible, Gabite and Garchomp look awesome. All in all I think Gen II was my favourite, with Totodile being my favourite starter.

However my all time favourite Pokemon is still and will always be Haunter.
