What the hell happened? So here's what I got from it.
Cobb is an expert extractor in dreams. He's the thief basically. He is partners with the pointman, Arthur, in the beginning. From what I can tell, they have been partners for a long time. Their original target in the beginning, Saito, tasked them with Inception, planting an idea. The idea, planted in the mind of Fischer, is to dissolve his father's empire. They hire the Architect, Ardrianne, who crafts the worlds of the shared dreams, making them into mazes. Cobb and Adrianne have things called totems, things that keep them in check with reality (Cobb's is a top who never fallls over if its a dream, and Adrianne's is a chess piece). The Forger, Eames, takes on the personality of Fischer's godfather and his father's right hand man, to persuade Fischer, inside the chemist's (Yusuf) dream. Meanwhile, Cobb is seemingly unstable because memories of his wife and kids keep showing up in the shared dreams. Adrianne is the only person who knows of this. In Cobb's memories, his wife is a total hateful bitch who wants to kill everbody. The first dream takes place in a rainy city because Yusuf had to pee during their flight. They kidnap Fischer, but they bare suprised to be ambushed, in which Saito gets shot. Arthur didn't do the reasearch to find out that Fischer is trained to defend himself in dreams. They interogate Fischer for a lock combination to access a safe, with the help of a staged torture for Eames as Fischer's godfather. They soon get into the car, sedate Fischer, and soon everybody except Yusuf (so he can set up a kick, the process of waking up) shares Arthur's dream of a hotel. Cobb pretends to be a mentor to Fischer to help defend himself against extraction, while soon afterwards gravity starts to shift because Yusuf's reckless driving. Arthur sets up the next kick, while everybody shares Eames dream. In Eames dream, they have to infiltrate some base in the snow. While these dreams are happening, Saito is slowly dying due to his gun wounds. Fischer gets shot by Cobb's wife, Cobb shoots his wife, and Saito dies. Saito and Fischer end up in Limbo, and Adrianne and Cobb go after them, while Eames sets up a kick for Fischer with the defiblirator. While in Limbo, Fischer is brought to life again by Eames, and soon jimps off the bulding to wake up in Eames dream. Adrianne joins Fischer while Cobb searches for Saito. In a simaltaneous kick (Yusuf drives van into water, Arthur sets off explosion on elevator and everybody falls, Eames blows up the base, and Fischer and Adrianne jump off a bulding), everybody wakes up but Saito and Cobb (who are in Limbo). Cobb wakes up in Limbo (again) meets Saito as an old man, and they both die and wake up on the airplane, where everything is back to normal. Cobb goes home to see his kids, and spins his top on the table. The top keeps spinning, wobbles a bit, implying it might be reality, but keeps spinning, implying it might be a dream. As the top keeps spinning and wobbling, the movie ends.

I think the fact of the movie being a movie is really a dream. Think of it, its the only way they can make such a kickass movie with a low budget. They Incepted the movie into our dreams.
