Long story short, police shot a dude who may or may not have shot first, people protested against the police, this turned into burning police cars and smashing up police stations and then turned into an all out riot after people joined in who just want to cause trouble and loot, and now it's inspiring copycat riots across the country.

If i were looting a place and some arse came up to me with a camera and asked 'whats all this about' or 'are you proud of what you're doing', i wouldnt ask if he was actual press or answer his question, i'd bust him in the face, take his camera, and go off.

I don't know, the guys who are every day cutting funding for pretty much every service in the country? If there's any young people rioting who aren't just doing it for the sake of it, it's because they're pissed off at the tories at the fact they closed down tons of youth clubs and set up churches instead, got rid of Connexions/careers for young people, got rid of EMA services for low income families, stopped transport benefits for people in education, trebled the cost of going to university from 3k a year to 9k a year, made massive cuts to all art related learning organizations even though arts doesn't require much funding overall, blah shit piss, I could go on. That kid getting shot last week was just the tipping point.

Pissing on our own doorstep won't help though.

It's always good to be reminded that the police/government are not all-powerful. I mean, even if this is horrible at least you know people will act up if they're being pushed around too much.

I'm pretty surprised that a couple of you guys have a problem with the guy filming. To be perfectly honest, I'd probably loot some electronics that I can't afford too, but I wouldn't try to pretend it was justified somehow. This is a symptom of a serious problem with younger people feeling alienated from society because society is fucking them in the ass. In a way it's good to see people reach their breaking point, as it may be a sign of unavoidable change, but wow what a mess.

I would argue that these riots might send more of a message then a violent politically rally. There's no "message" behind all of this, this is byproduct of classism and the gap between the rich and poor growing. People are destroying the city out of sheer amorality. When you've got no hope for the future what's the point of following THEIR rules?
