I actually like a lot of music. But different demographics of music attract different fucktards that do them no justice.
Metal fans are annoying
Dubstep fans are annoying
Country fans are annoying
Rap fans are annoying
Pretty much any genre has fans that almost completely ruin it for you. Not to mention the incomprehensible amount of subgenres these people are choosy about.
I don't care how you think it sounds. Metal is still Metal to me. And Rap is still Rap. Adding ____core doesn't impress or intrigue me in the least bit.
Opinions? Questions? Does anyone care?

I get annoyed by people who claim to like Radiohead, but actually haven't heard anything they've made since OK Computer. I get the impression that if they listened to KoL they'd be like, wtf is this shit? Btw KoL is good.

I like radiohead but I'm only really a massive fan of In Rainbows.

Quote from: RibsClock;1873385Admittedly they were on SNL and my first impression was "Oh Radiohead, I haven't heard from them in a while, I recall vaguely enjoying them" and then they started playing and I was like "wtf is this shit?"

Lolyeah, I didn't see it but I heard their SNL show was kind of a poor performance. On Colbert though they rawked it.

Moronic fans don't magically change the actual music, do they? I've never understood that whole 'ruining it for me' concept. Either I like a song or I don't. Why give those fucks that much influence over your own tastes?

For the record I said "almost completely ruin" and "make you want to vomit."
The moronic fanbases don't conflict with what I think of the artist. They just annoy me for giving the artist the rep for having "those" kinds of fans. Or that because of these dickheads you get sorted in with them at first glance.
I'm a huge Blink-182 fan. A few weeks ago I saw them live. The show was amazing, but the amount of wasted frat boys and crushed beer cans everywhere I walked made me want to kill myself.
There sometimes are moments when I think, "I listen to the same band THEY do?!"  I mostly shrug it off and listen to what I like regardless, but the fact that they made me stop and think that kinda pisses me off.
I might just be over analyzing things. I dunno.

i'm the kind of guy who can separate a fanbase from the content so fans never ruin anything for me, they just make me sad when they interpret something the wrong way.

it'd be like if i met someone else who is a super fan of Big Man Japan and they told me they liked how it was about a dude becoming super awesome and fighting giant monsters.  if i asked him if he liked the comments it made on north korea or about the parallels with how veterans of wars are treated or in general the message it makes towards our appreciation of those who have provided for us the good things we have, and they said "what?", i'd feel sad that somebody enjoys it for what is subjectively the wrong reasons.  i don't love big man japan any less and i'll still happily watch it again any time, but i'm more saddened by the fact that somebody watched the movie and the only thought they had was "huh huh giant monsters"

The same can be applied to fans of something you don't particularly like.
I saw Tron Legacy twice, once in theaters and the other time at home, and I didn't enjoy it either time.  I couldn't understand how popular it was with it's plot holes and dull story.  Someone at school was a big fan of it so I asked her if she could explain what made it so appealing to her.
I didn't get much of an answer besides how Daft Punk made a cameo and did the soundtrack. Turns out she'd never even seen the original Tron before. I love Daft Punk too, but that's not a valid thing to base the entire movie on.

This. A thousand times this.

I just thought it was entertaining and was good visually. Was it the greatest most artistic film of all time? No. But it was fun to watch. And I'll admit, seeing Daft Punk for a second was a neat little bonus and the soundtrack they made was pretty good.

Flan Clock

I loved the soundtrack. I own it. I just didn't find the film as entertaining as others. It seemed to me that they spent too much time trying to explain the confusing plot I'd already given up on and not enough having bitchin light cycle battles or fighting. I actually fell asleep once or twice in the theater.
If I were to make an abridged cut, still keeping vital pieces of information in, I could probably shave a good 30 minutes off it.

Modern goths make me sad.

They arent specifically goth but they inspired all the early goth bands. I'd say they're proto-goth.

Quote from: SatelliteClock;1874506Isn't Joy Division just punk?

i think they fall more into that catch-all postpunk/new wave/gothrock category with bands like siouxie and the banshees n shit

EDIT: and regardless Bauhaus is totes the goth and that band is pretty great.
