from point C on one side of the river jackie chooses landmark B directly on the opposite bank. She then walks 50 ft upstream perpendicular to the line formed by B and C. She calls this point A and measures angle A to be 80 degrees. How far is it across the river?

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

MATH???

Let's see, so point A is 80degrees, and since its a right triangle (right opposite the bank), point C is 90degrees.

Which means point B is 10 degrees, since 180-90-80=10

We'll use law of sines, so 50/sin10 = x/sin80

...Wait, for some reason, i'm getting close to 283.5 feet. That can't be right....

LAW OF SINES DOES NOT EXIST

sin10 = sin80

Let's see, so point A is 80degrees, and since its a right triangle, point C is 90degrees.

The last angle is 10 degrees then but im not sure where the 50 goes on the triangle and what formula im supposed to use and I don't have a text book :(

GodClock

i think 50 is the length of the hypotenuse

yea thats where i put it on the paper, now im just not sure what other side I need because i dont feel like looking up both

Wind-up Clock

Checked it with calculator, it seems to be right, since

50/sin10 = 287.93

and

283.5/sin80 = 287.87

close enough, so the answer may be 283.5 feet

Nooo, she walked 50 feet from the right angle to the 80º angle. 50 is the length of the side connecting the two given angles, the hypotenuse is the side not touching the right angle.

It took 10 years to type this post on my wii

i love you guys and if you guys like doing math i have a bunch more problems you can do :)

GingerbreadClockkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Looking at this I'm thinking its going to be real shit going back to school this year

I'm sorry but I think that a/sin(A) = b/sin(B) = c/sin(C)
is easier than a² = b² + c² - bc.cos(A)

Man, we did that first semester, one of the easier parts because it was just all plugging in.
