Just to make it clear, since Roman has "seemed" to attribute other's opinions to me in the past, despite me never saying anything like it: No, I do not think that someone other than yourself should be allowed to say that you ought to be put down, medically.

But in cases like permanently attached to an iron-longue, braindead or damaged beyond recovery due to oxygen deprevation and, since you cited it, cases like Schiavo where the medical staff has said that her brain is the size of a freaking orange and she's as plant as they come. Then I'd go "alrighty, pull that plug".

Not that that's something I can understand the Religious Right disagreeing with me on, though, strangely enough. Since I'd just be letting nature have it's way. Wouldn't that be more in accordance with The-god/s-of-your-choosing?

This pretty much settled the issue for me. Sure, it sucks that this little girl died and all. Medically, I think it should be allowed but not made procedure. That is, if someone is completely vegetative it should be up to the person's pre-vegetative wishes concerning the matter. As for voluntary lethal injection, if someone has thought it through and really knows they want only to die, they should be allowed to, and if they haven't and they do it anyway, they don't deserve to live, with that small a span of pondering for even the most important questions regarding their life, like "do I want to cease to exist".
