This is incredible. I love that he took an old principal in animation, in fact the very basics of animation, and managed to make something so beautiful out of it.

I'm pretty sure they're there, drawn on acetate film. The little stands seem to be staples, I heard the guy mention staples.

yeah everything is real, they're just drawn on thin plastic.
you can see it clearly when the camera zooms out of the guys passing through boxes, the reflection of the light in the left upper corner.

Not only that but at times you can see the edge of the top of the plastic in the frontmost things.
It's real.
And awesome.
