Quote from: Brooklyn;1431538That may be so, but they're the British Humanist Society, not the Church of Atheism.

Maybe not, but they're sure acting like they'd like to be. This shove-it-in-your-face on billboards shit is usually pretty religion-ish.

AlbinoClock

If they're putting signs on buses preaching about how we should worship their lack of a god they're the Church of Atheism.

No, no, no, the Church of Atheism worships Nietzsche, those guys worship Dawkin,  get it right.

Silly Putty Clock

Wait, I thought we worshipped Athe, goddess of Atheism. What religion have I been a part of all these years?

You mean Atheios? Where have you been man. I'll bet you don't even celebrate Agnostica.

Topcatyo

By the way, there are actual Atheist churches around.
There aren't a bajillion, but there are some.

AlbinoClock

Really though, atheism is a metaphysical assertion. Whether you think it's appropriate to call it a religion or not is splitting hairs.

I find it inappropriate which is why this banner is outrageous to me.

Ah. I find it distasteful because the statement is unhelpful, unfriendly, and unfounded. Several people are wearing little self-satisfied grins about this little social victory of theirs and I'd like to chat with each of them for a minute.

Because it shows that assholes can be convinced of any number of absurdities?

Well aren't you smug?

SnakeClock

Odd that atheists speak foul of religion's habit of pushy messages, yet are using similar techniques to foist their opinion. Isn't dialogue suitable for them, or does that not get them enough attention?

SilverCherryClock

I wish they'd make even more fence-sitting, inoffensive slogans instead. They should just say "It's entirely possible that there may be a god, and also possible that there isn't. Either way, you should enjoy your life!". That would be taking the high road.

No, no no no, Heaven nonexistent fantasy realm forbid atheists don't know everything!

RevolutionaryClock

I think its funny. Sure, its hypocritical if you also bitch about the other side doing the same thing, but if you get past this its a lulzy way of heating up the deeply religious folk (something which is invariably humorous) and causing a debate which sometimes makes a few people think.

Marlin Clock

Why does it seem like you people always think religious types are unable to think for themselves? :grumpy:
