So I bought this Eminar head and cab, model "Apollo 160". 2 channel guitar and bass and stuff. Every time I put in a new fuse into the head and turn it on, the amp goes GGGGGGGGGG and blows the fuse. Any ideas on what to do?

Ask the store where you bought it?

yeah old tubes arent exactly the most trustworthy things in the world. how much did you get it for?

$150AUD. I just tried it with the tubes out and it didn't blow the fuse. Theres one tube with a white cap instead of silver/mercury and it smells like shit. I'm gonna go out and buy a new tube soon and see if that fixes it.

Tube amps are very delicate, so I would get it checked out by somebody who KNOWS how a tube amp works, like in a music store.

Here are some precautions you could take:

1. Most tube amps have a 'Standby' and 'Power' switch. Always turn the power on first, and leave it on standby for about 2 minutes, to give the lamps some time to warm up, they will sound better, and premature use for the lamps can cause long term damage.

2. Keep it in a constantly climate-controlled area where it's not too humid or not too dry, keeping it around 40 is usually best. Quick temperature changes can damage the lamps' sound or even cause them to crack.

3. NEVER unplug your instrument from your tube amp while it's running, unless you put it on standby mode.

My El Diablo 100's lamps have burnt out because I've been blocking the air vent with an EQ, thinking it couldn't be too bad, but it turns out that they just fried. It'll cost about 700 bucks to replace these, so that's why I'm going to be awfully careful now.
