What, JRPG's? He's already reviewed TWEWY.

That wasn't quite a JRPG proper, since it had such a weird combat system. He specified in his review of it that that's why he wanted to play it.

It was still a JRPG, its just that the combat made it a good JRPG, same for Kingdom Hearts.

Action RPGs qualify as JRPGs now?

Marlin Clock

If I remember correctly, SquareEnix is still a Japanese company.
TWEWY was set in Tokyo for christ's sake.

You're missing my point. I think what you're trying to tell me is that TWEWY is a JARPG. Action RPGs are not RPGs.

Marlin Clock

But that's like saying an arctic fox isn't a fox because its got the name arctic attached onto it. It's just a subclass of RPGs.

SnakeClock

I'll admit TWEWY had the same garish characters and cutscene-driven tomfoolery which is usually what Yahtzee finds so abhorrent about "JRPGs", but he was attracted to that game initially because it didn't have RPG combat. That should qualify it as different.

Also, that it's set in Tokyo is hardly an argument. Most JRPGs are set in fictional places that resemble Europe. :p

Marlin Clock

It had RPG combat, you eat food to level up stats and buy clothes for added defense and find weapons of different styles in order to destroy enemies.

I think you're confusing Role Playing Game with Turn Based Combat, which does not need to be a factor to make a game a JRPG.

RobClock's dream review.
i was at first entertained by this review and it's exilent use of sarcasm but after 5 minutes it got a little stale and hurtful as a huge fan of 3Drealms and Duke.

I'm reminded of the credits of one episode when he said:
'systematically exiling every type of fanboy' or something like that.

PS. Take2 never gave 3Drealms any money to complete DNF, so the current court case as presented by Take2 is bullshit.

Okay, if you really want...

TakeTwo paid $12 million for the publishing rights in 2000, and if 3D Realms wasted their investment, I think they're entitled to file a lawsuit. It's ridiculous to say that "no money changed hands"; what, do you think TakeTwo just came in there every three years or so to offer moral support? :ohdear: Even if that wasn't the case, the head-spinning amount of time that was wasted is grounds for a lawsuit.

I'm still of the opinion that you're the last person in the world who was looking forward to this game, because Duke Nukem is basically the male version of Lara Croft.
