Not a bad idea, or you can set it to patrol an area.  With the improved mobility comes the lack of how much it fists you when it attacks you and it's lesser amount of health.

I know, make a bone an alternative weapon to the wrench, and make it so that instead of building buildings, you call in guard dogs when the bone is equipped. Also, the bone would heal the dogs in the same way that the wrench repairs buildings.
