The universe is a bit less than 14 billion years old. The motion picture camera is somewhere in its 130s. A massive amount of video is recorded every day. How long until time recorded exceeds actual time?

Well, I know new security cameras are popping up all the time. I don't know where I'd find statistics on anything like that though.

Wouldn't the recording devices be recording the same time? Seeing as there is only 1 time, so the recorded time would never exceed actual time. Someone on the other side of the world would just be recording the same time from a different angle.

he means there is always more then 1 camera rolling so it would exceed the actual time.

If there is a visual recording device for each person in the world, and it has recorded for an average of one year, that would only be around 7 billion years.

I'm pretty sure the amount of porn footage alone would beat 14 billion years.

If that's a reasonable estimate then we're already half-way there and I'm willing to bet that the vast bulk of the video has been produced within the last 5-10 years. So, depending on the acceleration, we could be talking like 3-6 years.

I'm going to interpret the question as "Is the total length of all recorded video longer than how long the universe has existed?"

It's hard to tell because there's no way to know for sure how many cameras are running at any given time. Regardless, I think it's safe to say we'll pass the universe age in at least a decade.
