As of this iteration, my computer can no longer run the source engine. Which means no Alien Swarm, and no Portal 2

Are you sure you can't just turn the quality down? This game has the same requirements as Left 4 Dead 1.

Also, sorry I didn't sign back on last night guys. After playing borderlands with my friend I just got ridiculously tired and had to go to sleep.

According the steam site, the source engine in this game is at a version between l4d2 and portal2. The game doesnt even open, I just get an error message, so I can't change the settings.

Everyone on the steam forums with the same problem have similar old rigs to me.

Hmmm, maybe it's not counting Alien Swarm as a game since it's free.
You could try playing Trackmania Nations Forever (another free Steam game) and see if it makes a difference. If that doesn't work you may just have to buy a $5 game or something to use the friends list.

EDIT: Or you could submit a support ticket to valve's tech support and see if they can sort it out for you.

So if you set up your profile the problems might be solved. I don't think steam tracks gameplay unless your profile is set up, so set up your profile and play a game for a while and then see if you can add friends.

Alright, ill try that now.

And it worked!

Theres one thing i Dont like, the tech. He is the only required player and if someone fucks up with him, its game over for all. Its almost like a VIP Escort game if you think about it.

I played with SoBe, Buttplug and Zen Micro for about an hour today and I already love this game.

I'm gonna be playing this today, invite me if you have an open spot.

It's an awesome game, it is kind of like a co-op arcade game.

I wish there was more than one campaign.

Although, to its credit, the one campaign is much longer than one Left 4 Dead campaign. Also this game is supposed to be really easy to create maps for, so we will likely see a bunch of user generated missions, and on top of that I'm sure Valve will add more campaigns of their own later on.

This is what I love about it. They had the balls to go through with an arcade-style game and they actually did a really good job with it. Fucking Valve.
