I've been in a creative slump so I sat down and forced myself to make a song.  The title is definitely going to change, so no worries on that.

It's not finished yet, but I've only worked on it for about 4 hours, so it's rough in spots.

HERE'S THE SONG, FUCKASS

pop-tart

AmberArachnidClock

Get a new drum beat and you're golden. Also get some echo on that distorted instrument, and make it less distorted, I think that would sound sick.

Lump Clock

I kinda thought of this:

And then I thought of this:

Now maybe you kinda get my thought process.

Needs more BASS.

AmberArachnidClock

yeah needs more bass too, also I used to have a wallet that was a jacobs ladder

Nice. I used to be obsessed with the movie.

Yeah, the drum beats are placeholders for the moment. My one friend knows a lot more about making good drum beats in Ableton so I'm gonna get some help from him for this song and my other ones.

As for the distorted instrument, which one are ya talking about? Are you referring to the high-pitched piano echo (the thing that plays by itself at the end)?  If so, I'll give it a shot.

I'ma watch those tomorrow after I'm done doing homework for class.

I agree, I just need to find a way to put it in the song without making it be too noisy, which I already worry some parts of this song might be approaching.

That noise is the audio clipping. The total volume of the tracks needs to be below the reference amplitude (usually denoted Ã,±1) before you mix them down.

I watched it after playing Silent Hill 3 and as surprised at how much they took from it.

I dig this track. It needs a hell of a lot of work in the mixing area, but it's got potential. The instrumentation and timbre choices make up for the simplicity of the chord progression. Just excellent layering, but this is where your mixing problem lays. You need to automate some level drops for those Flaming Lips style synths that drop in occasionally. Love the off beat rhythms in the background, too.

So, anyways, criticisms and praises aside. I blasted this thing three times in a row, all the way through, then set everything up to record. I had a hell of a time being able to listen to the song through the mix because your song gets completely blown out part way through. I was going Travis Barker on this shit for a good 3 takes, but was having trouble keeping time with it. I couldn't get it to line up with 82bpm tick no matter how many times I tried. I think there might be some salvageable pieces for a remix, though. Broke my sticks at the very end of the recording when I was just nailing the riff I had in my mind.

You owe me a pair of sticks. Vic Firth 8DNs.

I more meant all the noises mixing together not perfectly harmonizing, but there is quite a bit of audio clipping I need to fix.  I need to work on the levels a lot.

Thanks a bunch :D
I completely agree when it comes to the mixing.  It needs a lot of work.  The one that comes in and kinda does the pentatonic scale rise is waaay too overpowering, I could have sworn it didn't quite do that before I exported, but I plan on focusing on the mixing now that I have the instruments, for the most part, down.

Thank ya :)  I've been working a lot on timing with instruments.

I'd love to hear whatever you managed to record, I'm sure it's awesome.

Got Paypal? I wouldn't mind, it's less than 10 bucks and you can consider it my appreciation for the critiques and whatnot.

I'm going to dig through the audio later. I just spent another couple of hours on drums and guitar, and I'm drained. I'm probably going to have to do a little bit of warping to make things fit, but I'm limited as I don't have a decent drum mic set-up yet. Just 1 SM57 to the left of the kick drum, about a foot away from the snare, hihat, and kick. It gets surprisingly decent sound for 1 mic.

Haha, no, it's cool. I've had an extra set I bought almost a year ago. My old pair just refused to break for the longest time. I don't go too aggro on my skins and cymbals, because the shit is expensive to maintain. Thankfully, Vic Firth makes some great sticks, and as soon as I switched to nylon tips I haven't broken a single stick there. This one split in my hand and I could still play for another couple of bars before it almost ripped apart. For a good 4 seconds I was getting this awesome slapback double hit from it until it finally gave.

Ah, I see.  Yeah, I don't have a proper recording set-up either, or I'd use a lot more actual instruments instead of just MIDIs all the time.  My one homey got some kind of microphone good for taking samples, though, so he and I have plans to go around New York/Philadelphia/our hometown in hicksville PA and get some samples for music. I'm lookin forward to that.

Those sound like some badass drumsticks.
