After seeing Michael Moores' SICKO, I just have no fucking clue what you guys (americans) are paying taxes for.

stupid shit because we're all so stupid

edit: and our rich people are greedy as FUCK.

My favorite part of that movie was where he portrays the NHS as a magical pixie land where they give you free money and all the doctors are millionaires.

Fuck him.

And he supports Arsenal FC, so fuck him twice.

Quote from: Slurpee;1832264mostly unrelated but I've been wondering: why doesn't the government set up a voluntary donation fund that goes to the same place federal income tax goes?
in case there are people who want to give up some money?
bonus points if I could be assured my money was going to expenditures I'm actually concerned with.

I feel like I'm being stymied by other peoples' anti-tax sentiments, but also that I can't really speak for my neighbor in being willing to give up some more money to make sure things keep running properly, especially when the government isn't doing a spectacular job of demonstrating their aptitude.

I'm sure there are plenty of people like me with some good will that trust the government at least that far, and even more who'd be more willing to give money so long as it wasn't being taken.

I mean, I'm all for cutting excessive military spending, and removing tax shelters for corporations and the very very wealthy, but I'd think something small like that could go a long way. there's 300 million people in the united states. if half of them donate a measly 5 bucks a month, that's 9 billion dollars a year.

So you want the government to be run by NPR?  You guys should all move to Australia.
